With the conclusion of the three planning camps held by Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer, it was also announced that his assistants were confirmed.

Johann van Graan (forwards), Ricardo Loubscher (backs) and John McFarland (defence) were confirmed as his three right men, with Basil Carzis confirmed as conditioning coach and Ian Schwartz as the team manager.

The three contracted Bulls men, van Graan, McFarland and Carzis will be involved with the Springboks for the June internationals against England, after which they will return to the Bulls for the remainder of the Super Rugby season.

  • I see that Pieter De Villiers (the Boer frog, not Piet Snor) has been appointed as Bok scrum coach. When did this happen?

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 3) : Maybe it is news that there is confirmation. I think before it might have just been rumours.

Peter de Villiers – former Bok coach
PIETER de Villiers – former French prop

You’ve just reminded me of a comment made by John Smit about how foreigners spell his surname correctly as opposed to those of his own country. John Smith anyone? 😈

  • @lostfish (Comment 11) : True 🙂

Speaking of John Smit in a thread on coaching – has he ever mentioned going into coaching at some point. I would love him to give it a go – obviously start at the bottom and do the hard yards. I think he has the rugby brain and motivation skills to do it

Can see Sharks under Smit and Bulls under Matfield going at each other in a S18 final in a couple of years 😈
