SARU have clarified the issue we at Sharksworld have been debating all week, regarding the inclusion of the Southern Kings in Super Rugby next week. This clarification is a re-hash of a decision made in January this year already, and the only new information available to us is a date for the confirmation meeting.
In January it was proposed at a special general meeting that the Kings be included in Super Rugby next season, along with the top four teams taking part in the current competition. Simply, the last placed team gets ‘relegated’ from Super Rugby and the Kings will take their place.
On Thursday, a proposal came forward that the Kings be guaranteed Super Rugby for the next two seasons, after which a promotion/relegation match will take place to determine the teams taking part in the 2015 competition.
13 July 2012 will be an important date to remember as this is when the next General Meeting of SARU will take place, and a final decision will be made.
All teams concerned will look forward to some clarity on this issue, as there is a lot of preparation that goes into putting a Super Rugby squad together, and neither team will want any further delays in knowing exactly what is going to happen next year.

Thanx a lot Richard ! man this is very sad news for me . But great for the Kings .
Clear as mud 🙂
Do the Lions have a legal case against SARU or not?
@Zibbie (Comment 1) :
Sad indeed … but I can’t help but feel a sense of relief.
I don’t wish the Kings any negative vibes ..I hope they can manage to get a team togther that can be competive.
All the best !
@csb (Comment 4) :
Think a few Lions players will be looking for greener pastures .. but that would kinda defy the point
@csb (Comment 4) : we’ve got a jersey for you for next season, if you want it. I know it won’t be the same, but at least it’s something…
@robdylan (Comment 6) :
Cheers Robd 😀
@robdylan (Comment 6) :
haha ! SIES
@csb (Comment 7) :
im watching you like a hawk my man ! keeping my good eye on you 😛 haha
@Zibbie (Comment 5) :
This is most probabaly exactly what the Union needed ..if people at the Union don’t lose their heads and if ..a very big if this is managed correctly we can come out of this exile a better team.
I will continue to support the Lions whereever they play but if I’m honest I am fed up being the bum end of all jokes every season.
Its time for another team to have a go ..I don’t care a rats ass how the inclusion of the Kings are motivated.
Enough is enough …I can from now on relax and enjoy the rugby without the added stresses.
@robdylan (Comment 6) :
Hopefully you guys have approached Rhodes and Cilliers to return to the Tank.
@csb (Comment 9) :
Hearing rumors that the Lions might be doing Europe next season ..
@Zibbie (Comment 11) :
Also heard that ..who knows whether this is at all possible or viable ..I for one would support the idea if its at all possible.
Correct me if I’m wrong but it will be the B league ..forget what its called ..?
Although if that is the idea surely they must start organizing it ..
@csb (Comment 12) : I feel bad for the Lions supporters.But there always room in the Shark Tank
@csb (Comment 12) :
Yes i think its the something like the Avian league before you can get into the heiniken Cup .. so we will see …
@Quintin (Comment 13) :
I’ve got a plot of land in Kelso but its supposed to be for retirement …may have to move there earlier than expected now ..
i will only believe those SARU people when i actually SEE players run on the field at NMB stadium!
The Stormers should make Elton an offer right now!
We’ll take Taute, Rhodes and Cilliers.
@Zibbie (Comment 14) : Amlin Challenge Cup?
@robdylan (Comment 18) :
might be something along those lines .. but im not sure we will even make it to the Heiniken cup now .. eish …
Its good news it means the Lions losing record will be extended by the Kings to 32
@Megatron (Comment 16) :
Megs you should prepare and get your season tickets …its going to happen.
SARU needs to think about making the 5th Superugby team a combination of all the players that don’t form part of the other 4 franchises. This should also consider players in the Vodacom Cup..imagine players such as Kyle Cooper, Sithole, Jan van Velse, Serfontein, the flyhalf from WP (forgot his name), Wickaus Blaauw, Carstens, the Bulls prop from the Pumas etc..including the current Lions’ and Kings players forming one franchise based in PE. These players would be loaded to this franchise for that season’s competition.
@GreatSharksays (Comment 22) : The WHOLE idea behind the Kings is to give THAT region a chance, not to bring players from other regions to the EP. That will not benefit the EP at all.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 23) : @GreatSharksays (Comment 22) :
and it wouldent benefit the Lions either
