Sharks loose forward Willem Alberts turns 28 today.
After casting in his lot with the Durban side a few years ago, former Monnas boy Alberts – known as “Big Vic” to his friends- has quickly established himself as a crowd favourite with fans of the black and white. His bullocking runs and smashing defensive hits in the number 7 jersey have earned him another title – “the Bone Collector” and it’s on the back of these great exploits that he’s gone on to represent the national side regularly over the last 2 seasons, including playing a starring role at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
While 2012 has not quite gone to plan for Vic, with a chronic shoulder injury and the associated rehabilitation leading to a dip in form, we know the class and character of the man in question will drive him to reclaim his previous heights and we look forward to many more years of bone-crunching hits and glorious galloping runs from our gentle giant.
Have a lekker birthday, Willem! We all remain in awe of the skills you display on the rugby field, as well as the person you are off it and wait with baited breath to see you back in action as soon as possible.

Congrats Big Vic aka bone collector. Really hope that this year as well, will end on a hign note. You are a true inspiration to my son. Always stay so positive and humble. God bless.
Geluk! Ons hoop om die ‘Bone Collector’ binnekort weer op top vorm terug te sien vir die Sharks! 😀
Happy birthday Vic! Have a good one!!
Happy birthday big man. Can’t wait to see you in action again – but only if you 100% ready pls
Happy birthday Willem! Given that you share a birthday with Salvador Dali, I hope you can soon celebrate by bending opponents into the same shape as Dali’s melting clocks…
@Culling Song (Comment 5) : he also shares it with Vic MAtfield… that could be another reason behind the nickname
Happy birthday Willem.
Baie geluk Willem!
Happy Birthday big guy!
Happy birthday Big Vic! Hope your team-mates give you a nice win as a birthday present tomorrow.
