The first of two local games this weekend, and the first is the big one for us here at Sharksworld, as the Cheetahs host our boys in black and white in Bloemfontein.
The Cheetahs come off a narrow loss to the Stormers last weekend, giving the Cape side a hard time and in the process picking up a valuable bonus point. They have opted to play Riaan Smit ahead of Sias Ebersohn, who has been having a nightmare run of late.
The Sharks team shows few changes, with Riaan Viljoen back in Bloemfontein and hoping for a big performance against his old team. The rest of the starting team is unchanged, but look out for Willem Alberts, Jean Deysel and Ryan Kankowski off the bench.
Cheetahs: Hennie Daniller, Cameron Jacobs, Robert Ebersohn, Andries Strauss, Willie le Roux, Riaan Smit, Piet van Zyl, Philip van der Walt, Justin Downey, Heinrich Brussow, George Earle, Izak van der Westhuizen, WP Nel, Adriaan Strauss (captain), Coenie Oosthuizen.
Replacements: Hercu Liebenberg, Trevor Nyakane, Andries Ferreira, Ashley Johnson, Tewis de Bruyn, Sias Ebersohn, Philip Snyman.
Sharks: 1. Tendai Mtawarira , 2. Bismarck du Plessis , 3. Jannie du Plessis , 4. Steven Sykes , 5. Anton Bresler , 6. Jacques Botes , 7. Marcell Coetzee , 8. Keegan Daniel (Capt) , 9. Charl McLeod , 10. Patrick Lambie , 11. Lwazi Mvovo , 12. Tim Whitehead , 13. Paul Jordaan , 14. JP Pietersen , 15. Riaan Viljoen

GO SHARKS!!!!!!
GO SHARKS!!!! You can do it boys. Time to step up.
Go Sharks!!!
Lambie out
@sharks_lover (Comment 4) : Whoever takes his place, better step up or ship out 🙁
@sharks_lover (Comment 4) : 😥
@JarsonX (Comment 5) : Fred starting
Almost time…not watching 🙁
Keep up the updates….
@sharks_lover (Comment 4) : Aaaah man….
Hope the Boeries are braaied and the beers are chilled, it’s GAME TIME!!!
Lambie was never going to play , Plum sheepishly saying lambie was left behind as he had flu 🙄
Well atleast it means the weeks training included Fred for the most thus the preperations should be fine
@sharks_lover (Comment 7) : He is shipping out anyways 😆
Can Fred have 2 great games in a row?
Ndugane in on the bench
let the games begin
This will be the 3rd Sharks game I miss due to work 🙄
bismark puts strauss on his ass
try JPP
Yeah baby! 😀
7-0
Beauty of a try!
Great start!
We need to keep the intensity up.
Don’t be shy to give us more detail 😉
mcleod with a rubbish pass again
FFS if we just had a decent scrummy we would be so much better
mcleod stuffs up again
Reinach should get a shot, against the Lions would be good.
Mcleod is glaringly the weak link in our backline.
2 really shoddy passes and a really poor pass out the tackle.
How desperately we need a decent 9!
@Big Fish (Comment 28) : yup
How exciting 🙄
@Big Fish (Comment 28) : I feel bad for harping on about it but McLeod really isn’t good enough.
I AM loving the way our players are bouncing the Cheetahs in the tackle.
Cheetahs are falling on their arses left right and center. 😛
Smit penalty
Cheets 3 – 7 Sharks
Smit missed with a drop goal attempt and Freddie missed with a penalty attempt.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 32) :
Yet we lead by just 1 point.
We need to keep up the intensity and finish our moves too.
Smit penalty
Cheats 6 – 7 Sharks
28mins
Adriaan Strauss try!
Conversion missed!
Cheatahs 11 – 7 Sharks
32mins
amazing try by freddie
AND NOBODY SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT THE CHEETAH STEPPING IN TOUCH BEFORE PASSING TO STRAUSS TO SCORE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? 👿
@KSA Shark © (Comment 39) : I’m not watching I’m updating from other updates(delayed) 😈
Paul Jordaan has buckets of talent, but he still makes a lot of rookie mistakes.
Not quite the JP du Plessis some make him out to be.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 39) : whats the point boet, there is quite a few things being missed by the ref and his co accused 😆
Cheetahs 11 – 14 Sharks
35mins
@KSA Shark © (Comment 39) : Must’ve missed that
We must lead the stats in `Teams that dominate and can´t put opponents away`. 😯
Smit penalty
14 each
37mins
try Mvovo
Mvovo!!!
Mvovovoom!!!!!
5 penalties given away to 1 by the Cheetahs. 🙁
Great choice by Keegs to take the tap
@KSA Shark © (Comment 39) : The glimpse I saw of the game I could’ve sworm he was in touch but no one said anything so I thought he might’ve got the pass away before.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 50) : makes one think huh? Kaplan as usual trying his best to nail us
Halftime
Cheetahs 14
Sharks 21
3 tries already
bonus point on the cards, must just make sure to win the match
@lostfish (Comment 52) : His foot was so in touch just can’t understand how it was not seen. Should never have been a try to Cheetahs there.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 39) : I thouht he was, but on replay does not look like he was out.
@sharks_lover (Comment 55) : Need to win it first…. hehe.
@Ice (Comment 57) : then again, I was looking at the AR who seemed to pay a lot of attention on that, and he did not see it. Whether he was in or out, makes no diffs now. Sharks must play so mistakes by refs don’t make a difs.
@sharks_lover (Comment 53) : [email protected] man.
@Ice (Comment 57) : nope 100%. I paused and replayed slowmo. 🙂
issie man
Take the points now.
Although the Cheetahs are my second team…for SA rugby I hope the Sharks can take it….
@Hmmm (Comment 64) : HEY!!!!!!!!!! Did you see Mvovo’s gas for his tries last week? 😛
24 – 14 to sharks now.
Why did plum not start Ludik ahead of Mvovo…
Defensive you’ll be A LOT better and if the individual sprints against the Force no 14 is anything to go by Ludik is at least 3/4 yards faster then Mvovo…
And a much better fielder of kicks (def or attack)
@Puma (Comment 56) : The ref turned a blind eye…
@KSA Shark © (Comment 65) :
Seriously? You are expecting logic?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 65) :
And 5 min later Ludik outran that same Force 14 even further….Mvovo bearly stayed ahead and Ludik sprinted passed…
And I don’t think Ludik has that much pace…so just proves my point on Mvovo….
Come now KSA….you are much smarter than that guy….
@Hmmm (Comment 67) : Ludik is injured. If you speaking about this game.
@Hmmm (Comment 67) : because Mvovo is a better and faster wing. Viljoen replaced the INJURED Ludik this week.
@Hmmm (Comment 67) : 🙄 Ludik is injured and really not that fast anyways. He is better on defence I agree.
@Big Fish (Comment 69) :
Of course I am very logical man….
@KSA Shark © (Comment 72) :
Ludik out sprinted the same 14 Mvovo bearly stayed in front of….so I am not convinced faster….neither very pacey….they both in the Lions wing speed category…ha-ha
Why Freddie why???
Both hookers are playing big games today hey…
I think we know who the 2 front running Bokke hookers are…
As I say that Bizzy gets yellow….
Sharks bloggers curse?
😆
Rugby is turning into a sport for softies!
I would like Sharks to get a bonus point victory and Cheetahs to lose with 2 bonus points….
That will work out best for the SA teams on the log…
But that seems very wishful considering how the game is going…
@lostfish (Comment 76) : My frustrations EXACTLY!
2nd time and Bismarck Du Plessis gets a Yellow card for no arms. 😕
Touch judge is smoking something cheap!
@Ben (Comment 79) :
I agree…I mean Rugby League still allows shoulder charge…
Who has been bumped more….Mvovo or the Highlanders scrummy (Smith I think it is)….
I think Smith is leading that one….especially against the Cheetahs he got bumped like 4 / 5 times…
@Hmmm (Comment 84) :
And the players still run on week after week…
Bissie is a great player, but damn man he is costs the team a lot with his discipline. 👿
So that’s why Keegan isn’t a hooker? 🙂
Big guts shown by Keegan but eish that was terrible…
@Hmmm (Comment 74) : but you support the Lions 😈
@Puma (Comment 87) :
And I am not convinced on his line out throw…or maybe the Sharks locks and that great at line out jumping or a combo of the 2…
@lostfish (Comment 90) : Let’s all just ignore the bloody troll please.
@lostfish (Comment 90) :
I am a very loyal supporter too…I don’t and never will team hop…
@Ben (Comment 92) :
Some people have character…don’t drag them down…
@Hmmm (Comment 91) : Yip his line out throws have not been the best. He is a great player though it is his discipline that costs us the most though.
@Hmmm (Comment 93) : Haha, just giving you a hard time
For those interested in the score:
Cheetahs 20 – 24 Sharks
Come on Sharkies….
4 try bonus to stay ahead of Highlanders…..
@JarsonX (Comment 97) : TMO having a look at a Sharks try – no try
@Ben (Comment 92) :
Easy now: someone has to buy Verimark products.
Go Sharks!
@Puma (Comment 95) :
I agree…if someone can work on that with him…he would be such a benefit…
@lostfish (Comment 96) :
Sharp guy….
We should be taking the points go for the win first before the bonus point.
@Hmmm (Comment 103) : girl
Anything aired for more than 2 seconds Mvovo will drop it 50% of the time…he’s hands often let him down…and he is a medium passed very strong runner…and that’s costing him being a prolific try scorer…
@Hmmm (Comment 102) : What will happen to your players next year when your team drops out the S15?
Hope we get Cilliers back. Taute could come to Sharks too…hehe.
@lostfish (Comment 105) :
Apologies Milady
@Puma (Comment 107) :
Well if they go the relegation match route we wont be dropping out…and keep them all…lol
Penalties conceded
Sharks 10 😯
Cheetahs 2
Cheetahs 20 – 27 Sharks
66min
@Hmmm (Comment 109) :
And Mvovo makes you a bitch. Again.
Thanks for coming.
See what I mean if Mvovo handles the ball….he is a very strong medium passed runner….
Way to go Sharks….4 tries!!!! Keep the Highlanders in your dust….
Go Mvovo hmmm 😈
@Big Fish (Comment 112) :
Nah…stays a very strong medium paced runner…proves me right again…
Thanks for watching… 😉
And with that try the Cheetahs will have to wait a few more weeks to equal their record.
Awesome by Mvovo there he made the try for Bosman. What a great kick by Freddie too… 😎
Bonus point now just hand on Sharks. This is a must win for us.
@Big Fish (Comment 100) :
@Big Fish (Comment 112) : 😆
@Puma (Comment 117) : hand = hang 😳
The Cheetahs props showing great feet stepping passed the Sharks players…
The commentating is shit today 🙄
Cheetahs should score here to get a bonus point too….
@Hmmm (Comment 106) : be fair, that was right down by his feet .
Sias should have held onto the ball…he dragged Mvovo and Freddie all the way to the tryline…unselfishness costing the Cheetahs a try…
@lostfish (Comment 124) : Hmmm be fair? That’s like asking me to praise Victoria. 🙂
Eish…
Would have loved 1 more try by the Cheetahs to get the bonus point…
@Hmmm (Comment 125) : more like lack of confidence.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 126) : true
@JarsonX (Comment 122) :
Its been almost as partisan as the officiating.
Sharks overcame more than just 15 men today.
@lostfish (Comment 124) :
I always try to be fair…and that did not look like that was at his feet…
@GreatSharksays (Comment 83) : Majat is the scourge of our youth. 😐
Fulltime
CHEETAHS 20 – 34 SHARKS
Thank you very much………NOT.
@Big Fish (Comment 130) : That wasn’t just bad, it was glaringly bloody obvious.
@Big Fish (Comment 130) :
EISH!!
Bull supporter in black and white!??!
The standard of LIVE score updates is way below par 🙁
@Hmmm (Comment 123) : ha ha ha.
Who are you supporting next season? 🙂
@KSA Shark © (Comment 128) :
That’s a fair comment…
@robdylan (Comment 137) :
LIONS….
We gonna smoke the Kings in the relegation match…. 😉
WTH???????????????
How can they choose Bismarck as MOTM after he got a Yellow card???????????????
Obviously if they can’t choose a homeboy, they’ll choose an old homeboy. 😛
As a losing captain and player, especially after that early hit, Strauss was impressive. We showed some signs of the 2010 Sharks, but that quickly went south after the first try. Discipline problems resurfacing. All in all a satisfying result. Some nice touches by Jordaan and both JP and Mvovo looked for work. Nice to see a decent all round display for 80 minutes.
PS: Michalak is genius and village idiot mixed together in a frog smoothie.
Who do we have to bribe to get Reinach a bench spot?
@Hmmm (Comment 139) : clearly haven’t been reading the news. There’s not going to be one of those this year
@KSA Shark © (Comment 140) :
Ha-ha…
But then it could be any of 10 Sharks players….lol
Well done to our Sharks.
Bonus point too………. 🙂 😎
Now for the Stormers next week….. 🙂
Negativity aside, well played Sharkies! Great win!
@robdylan (Comment 143) :
Nope work has got me busy…
But there should be….that’s the only fair way….well we will have to rise to that what is right and build and army and boycott every King’s game….lets show SA still fights for what is right and fair…
@Puma (Comment 145) :
Best result for a neutral SA supporter…is a try fest where both score 4 tries and the game is drawn…both team getting 3 log points…
@Puma (Comment 145) : amen brudda amen 😉
@rhineshark (Comment 141) :
Ha-Ha….that sharp @Freddie comment…
@robdylan (Comment 143) :
“Reading”? 😈
@Big Fish (Comment 151) :
You need to work on your chirping guy…LoL
But love the effort though…if only the Lions tried as hard as you do…
Battery flat…catch you guys later…
Well done Sharks. A good win for you.
Very proud of the boys, well done!
well done 🙂
The ‘Cats’ have lost by 20 to 34 (14 points) twice in one day 😈
Well done Sharkies!
@JarsonX (Comment 157) : hehe. On a different note I was wondering whether anybody ever seen Kings performing against Super Rugby opposition to justify their inclusion.
pity about 2 butchered tries. Would have been nice to see Cheetahs off with 28 points difference.
@Loosehead (Comment 154) : thanks matey. Your boys were better than expected.
I haven’t seen 2 hookers go at it like that since the last episode of Jersey Shore! Thanks Strauss and Bismark for a cracker of a game.
@Big Fish (Comment 112) : Comment of the day. 🙂
@Loosehead (Comment 154) : thanks los koppietjie 😉
We’re in the air we’re on the ground!!!, we’re always in control!!!!! And when you say ‘THE SHARKS’ you’re talking SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!
I have checked, rechecked, watched in slow-mo, paused, rewind and paused again and I am satisfied (with due consideration of all evidence available) that his foot was in touch. He even digged out patch of grass on the line. Assistant ref must see Mark Lawrence.
@ rekinek (Comment 166) : 😆 serious?? He is the blindest ref I know! Optometrist my asset!
@Ice (Comment 167) : As blind as Ice. 😆
I refer you to @Ice (Comment 57) : 😛 😉
@KSA Shark © (Comment 168) : And I refer you to comment 59…. 😆
@rekinek (Comment 166) :same here, checked and it was certainly out…
