Former Sharks winger/fullback/centre Stefan Terblanche has called time on his career, and fittingly so, in front of a near full Twickenham in the Heineken Cup final this past weekend.
Terblanche, who turns 37 in July, was on the losing side, playing for Ulster as they were beaten by Leinster, 42 – 14, completing a marathon 15 year career with stints at Boland, the Sharks, the Ospreys, back at the Sharks and now Ulster.
Terblanche, who represented the Springboks 37 times, scoring 19 tries in the process, returns to South Africa to take a full time directors role in the SA Rugby Legends institution.
I would like to thank Stefan for some fantastic memories, both for the Sharks and for the Boks, and wish him all the best in his new, non-playing career.

A true legend of the game!!
Sad Sad thing that a person has to get older.
Stefan at 37 is in better shape than some of our young “professionals”. Would love for someone of THIS caliber to be involved with the Sharks.
I have some GREAT memories of Stefan’s playing days for us.
Voorspoed oom Stef and thanks for all the bacon! 😀
Cheers and dankie Oom Stef!
trusting he has intentions of getting involved with coaching at some stage…
Thanks for all the great memories Stef. You are an inspiration to so many people. All the best for the future.
Good luck to one of the ultimate rugby players and gentlemen EVER! You surely gave me a lot of pleasure watching you play over the years!
All the best Oupa!
Very professional and pleasant player and person.
Cheers Stefan go well, Im glad you arent lost to rugby and its quiete fitting that you are throwing in your lot with the SA Rugby Legends.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : oupa should’ve retired LONG ago, he was an albatross in the sharks midfield, even at fullback he was dull.
his speech after the 2008 Currie Cup was just embarrassing 😕
@Megatron (Comment 10) :
2010 CC final and I loved the way he snubbed Maria Ramos at the prize giving.
@Pokkel (Comment 11) : all of that, shows no class imo.
@Megatron (Comment 12) :
In your opinion Mega. It was probably not world class but well deserved IMO.
@Pokkel (Comment 13) :
Or it could just be that I can’t stand that bank. 😈
Stef if you reading this just mind @Megatron…..
He is NOT a Sharks supporter..
You’re a legend Stef.. Thanks for many years entertainment and service..hope to see you stay involved with Rugby for many years to come…
@Pokkel (Comment 14) : Or it could be that he doesn’t like politics mixing in with sport, which is fair enough. How many times do you see these CEO’s and politicians jump onto the prize-giving stage and try to get their 15 seconds in the spotlight?
@Megatron (Comment 12) : You, are the last one that can say anything about “class”. Why would one want to stoop so low as to always belittling someone. Stef is everything you will never be. A gentleman.
Have your say on rugby, but your ways are getting a bit tiresome. You are the most selfish guy on this blog. Why don’t you show some respect sometime and give a person “his moment”? Perhaps because you will never have one?
@Megatron (Comment 10) : He was still good in 2008. He rounded Habana in the CC final. But I have to agree that in the last three years, he was a little too overtrusted by Plumtree and co, when in actual fact he should have been a handy bench replacement in order to blood new centres. Anyway, we have Whitehead and Jordaan now, so I’m not complaining anymore.
@Ice (Comment 17) : 😆 🙄
@Ice (Comment 17) : You must be one lonely lonely soul…and you don’t have any dignity if you don’t know when shut your trap at appropriate moments.
@Megatron (Comment 10) : Surely there’s SOMETHING nice you can say about his FIFTEEN year career. Anything? 15 years? 😕
@CapeShark (Comment 18) : thanks for an objective view of my comment and not the PMS-riddled one before yours 😛
play nicely please.
@ChrisS (Comment 1) : @KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : Agreed! Stef you’re an absolute legend! Wish you could come back to the Sharks in some sort of coaching role.
@Megatron (Comment 22) : Do you ever have anything nice to say about anyone except the Queens? I hear you’re Transformation? Not much of a surprise. I’ve seen your writing on Keo and the hatred and anger in your writing is actually not cool.
@Ice (Comment 20) : Well said.
True Legend of the game.
@StevieS (Comment 25) : “hatred & anger”? please 😆
if i’ve offended your delicate sensibilities too…deal with it
HTFU
@Megatron (Comment 27) : HTFU? Care to explain?
Dude, you have a go at anyone and everyone! You never have anything nice to say about anyone other than the Kings. No delicate sensibilities on my part, just decent social etiquette. Maybe you should try it sometime. Commenting on ‘pms riddled rants’? That’s hitting below the belt!
@StevieS (Comment 28) : Harden the F Up…
Perhaps GTFU is a good one for Mega.
@Ice (Comment 29) : Haha perhaps we should just ignore him and he’ll go away or start talking about rugby. I think GTFU is perfect in his case 😉
Cheers Stef. Thanks for the memories and best of luck in the future!
@StevieS (Comment 28) : this is an “OPINION-BASED” forum, if you don’t agree with mine, move along.
“social etiquette”? being a toadying fan-boy is not etiquette.
i’m assuming you read comment #17, the person is attempting to have a go at me, not refuting my comment.
@Ice (Comment 29) : +1
@Megatron (Comment 32) : Toadying fan boy? Hahaha well done, now we stoop to name calling. I take it you’re still a youngster then? This is a grown-ups forum young man 😆
P.s. Ice didn’t attempt to have a go at you, she plain burnt your ass!
@Uli (Comment 33) : +2
@Megatron (Comment 32) : with u unfortunately it’s linked. I think your personality comes out in your comments. How do u suppose I split the two?
guys seriously. If you do not stop the personal comments I will start removing them.
final warning.
thanks Rob,know nobody wants to talk,lol.to Stef all the best and thanks for the memories
Thanks Stef for a golden memory and the way you conducted yourself on and off the field . You are an inspiration to young rugby players from many countries. May all you do turn toz gold for you and your loved ones.
Loved every try!!! Thanx
One of my favourite players of all time. I wish you all the best Stef. Brilliant rugby player, leader and person.
And as for Megatron, I guess all we can do is feel sorry for the poor oke.
Cheers Stef, you’re a legend of the game, and I hope to see you back at the Sharks, sharing your knowledge, experience and work ethic with the next generation of players.
Stefan was one of the best rugby players. He was not always perfect and had his bad days, but his commitment on the field, his attitude and discipline was always good. Somebody to look up to and tell your children “This is the way to behave” I never saw his shoulders slump in a match and he always put his body on the line. Hope we will hear and see a lot of him in connection with rugby in the future. Well done Stefan
