Super Rugby 2012 – Bulls (14) vs Stormers (19) F/T

The final match for the weekend and one of the bigger matches of the season so far, for both these teams, as the Bulls host the Stormers at Loftus. A win for either team will all but guarantee them top spot on the SA conference, taking into consideration both teams’ remaining fixtures.

The Bulls are back in the country after four weeks on the road, but will be confident going into this match against a Stormers team that has been hit with injuries and a run of matches in which they have struggled to put in a full 80 minute performance. The Bulls on the other hand, are looking good in terms of a team in that consistent selections and no major injury concerns count in their favour at this stage of the season.

The Stormers come off a loss to the Sharks in Durban last week, only their second loss of the season, and look like a team in danger of losing all the momentum they had earlier in the season, mainly thanks to injuries in key areas of their game. The team will lift themselves for one last push before the break in Super Rugby, but will they have enough gas in the tank to pull off a victory at Loftus?

Bulls: Zane Kirchner, Akona Ndungane, JJ Engelbrecht, Wynand Olivier, Bjorn Basson, Morne Steyn, Francois Hougaard, Pierre Spies (captain), CJ Stander, Dewald Potgieter, Juandre Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Dean Greyling.

Replacements: Willie Wepener, Rayno Gerber, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Arno Botha, Jano Vermaak, Louis Fouche, Francois Venter.

Stormers: Gio Aplon, Gerhard van den Heever, Juan de Jongh, Jean de Villiers (c), Bryan Habana, Peter Grant, Dewaldt Duvenage, Jebb Sinclair, Rynhardt Elstadt, Siya Kolisi, De Kock Steenkamp, Eben Etzebeth, Frans Malherbe, Tiaan Liebenberg, Deon Carstens

Replacements: Deon Fourie, Brok Harris, Quinn Roux, Don Armand, Nick Fenton-Wells, Louis Schreuder, Burton Francis.

Referee: Jonathan Kaplan
Assistant Ref 1:Mark Lawrence
Assistant Ref 2:Cobus Wessels
TMO : Shaun Veldsman

Ek gaan myself nou verskoon en in my rooiwyn tjank. Baai. 😉

  • @Hmmm (Comment 40) :
You are right, but with all due respect, the Lions at their best are probably not any better than most of the other SR teams at their norm.

If the Sharks couldn’t win today knowing that the 5 points would give them a shot at 1 or 2 on the SA log, then one has to question their ability to keep the intensity up for the remainder of this tournament.

Or maybe I am just down.
