In confirmation of a story that we ran more than a month ago, Rugby365 have “exclusively” revealed that Ross Skeate is on his way to join Agen in France.
This is itself is, of course, not news to avid readers of Sharksworld, but we are now able to finally confirm some of the details around the move – specifically the fact that Skeate, while now finally able to play again (or rather, within a week of being able to do so) will definitely not feature for the Sharks in their remaining Super Rugby matches.
The formers WP lock has spent the entire season on the sidelines after picking up a neck injury, but it’s not the Sharks who will benefit from the excellent medical rehabilitation work done; Skeate’s contract with Agen starts on 1 July and with the Sharks next playing on 6 July (against the Bulls), he will be quite comfortably ensconced in south-west France by that stage. It is unclear, at this stage, what will become of Ross Skeate’s dedicated bed in the Sharks Medical Suite; we’re thinking that at least a small commemorative plaque would be fitting to remind us of all the happy times he spent there!
Talking to Rugby365’s Timmy Hancox, Skeate reckons that he may follow up this second stint in France with a spell in Japan.

Sad to see him go. He was brilliant for us last year!
Pieter steph, is the man…and the 2 Marais with sykes and bresler(we are in good shap). Just a klip in die bos…had a chat about Quin Roux with a province coach…and that boy will be a Bok…just a nother youngster who can be in the sharks mix…also heard some Jan Serfontein rumours(but not with the Sharks)…also Small-Smith talking to Province. But a player that the shatks can pay big bucks for and replace with any player in the sharks backline is Tim Swiel, saw him play 2 years ago in grade11_scary scary talent…Swiel(13,15) with Serfontein(12) and Houghard(9,14) and Goosen(10), Lambie(10,15)-the future springbok backs.scary talent!
@BoerSeun (Comment 3) : Beteken boggerol. Ons land is VOL ongelooflike talent, maar dit word vrek vinnig uit hulle uitge-“coach”. ๐ฅ
@BoerSeun (Comment 3) :
Eish I can only hope they keep Hougaard at 9.
Wouldn’t mind seeing Serfontein start as an outside back either. Need some skill players with a bit of size out there, especially the way Heyneke Meyer appears to be heading.
And surely Frans Steyn has another 5-6 years left in the Bok jersey. JP Pietersen a young guy as well, but not quite as valuable to us in the long run.
The Sharks! Your passport to a free medical holiday ๐
@vanmartin (Comment 6) : Outrageous isn’t it. They should put a clause in contracts that state: if the union spends thousands of rands on your rehabilitation, you’re compelled to play at least 5 games post injury!
@CapeShark (Comment 7) : And promise never to score tries against us

Skeate’s star is on the wane. He leaves Toulon to come and play for the Sharks to turn around to go back to France to play for Agen who is a bottom of the log team. I wish him luck and I wish he could’ve done more at the Sharks.
@lostfish (Comment 9) : Do stars wane? I thought that only applied to the moon. ๐
@klempie (Comment 10) : I suppose they can wane as they get older and burn their fuel out….
@klempie (Comment 10) : wane does refer to the moon but in the context it means to approach an end.
HT : Ireland 24 – 12 Italy
HT : Argentina 12 – 0 Scotland
@lostfish (Comment 12) : Yeh I know…hence the burning out. ๐
Cheers Ross, I enjoyed supporting you while at the Sharks. Hope you can remain injury free.
@lostfish (Comment 12) : @klempie (Comment 10) : Do you guys think the world is waning?
@Salmonoid (Comment 16) : No, but this thread is
