Lambie set to miss Bulls match?

According to an article on Supersport this morning, Pat Lambie joins a long list of Sharks players to be all but ruled out of this weekend’s game against the Bulls.

Gavin Rich reports that the Bok pivot’s ankle injury has not healed as expected, with coach John Plumtree admitting that the 21-year-old is struggling with lateral movement. Lambie will be given until today to improve, but the chances are slim that he will be fir to play on Friday night.

That, at least, makes the selection of the back line a little easier, with Fred Michalak assured of a start at flyhalf, with one of Louis Ludik or Riaan Viljoen to play in the number 15 jersey. More worryingly for Sharks fans, though, Lambie now joins Willem Alberts, Steven Sykes, Jacques Botes and Paul Jordaan on an injury list that is starting to look far too long, given how crucial this game is to the Sharks.

Plumtree will be able to name a pretty good team, of that there is no doubt, but it will fall pretty far short of the strongest possible Sharks line up and one feels that any weakness in the side will be ruthlessly exposed by a Bulls outfit hell-bent on securing home ground advantage for the play-offs.

The Sharks side should be announced later today.

  • Yip read that earlier on SS. What a pity, was really hoping to see Pat start at fh. Well even if he was fit think he would have played at fb, still would liked to have seen him at fh for this game with Fransie playing inside centre.

That ankle injury is proving to be worse than we all thought. Should be over it by the time selection comes for RC. Again his chances might drop now that Zane will start this week, with Meyer having another look at him. Feel for Pat, hope he can play next week to secure the fb spot for the Boks.

@robdylan (Comment 3) : Ja look I think Plum purely played him at 15 just before the England test to get him game time there for the Boks. Well that is my feeling. However it messes the younster up. I personally would like to see him back at fh now that we have Steyn at inside centre. Anyhow hope he does not miss out on being selected for the Boks at fb. I thought out of the 3 that played there Pat was our best bet at fb. He needs to have a game there before the RC come up. Then he will no doubt whether he plays there next week or in the CC he will get some game time. Just a damn pity he is not available for this game against the Bulls. For that matter Alberts and Sykes too.

the lambie obsession is unhlealthy and irritating.

  • @Megatron (Comment 34) : Cruden is possibly the most exciting 10 around ,shades of Cooper .

If I were Bok selector Id play Pat Lambie at 10 .At 21 he is the most rounded fly half we have in the country, Goosen is a very talented player but I have my reservations about him . Watching reunion the other night Marshall made a very valid point regarding M.Steyn and how pivotal he is to the way HM wants to play ,my counter to that train of thought is that both Goosen and Lambie can play in that mould but add so much more.
On merit 9.Pienaar 10.Lambie 12.Steyn b9.Hougaard b10.Steyn b12.Wynand –once Goose gets more experience he should overtake Steyn

A level-headed decision maker at 10 fits the Boks game plan to a tee – especially when our forwards are on the back foot. That’s when things usually start to fall apart for us.

I unfortunately don’t have the time to sit refreshing the Sharks website every 5 minutes to see if the team’s come out, but I’m never more than 15-20 minutes behind them, AT MOST. We always get a thread up with the team virtually as soon as it’s been released, so why people feel the need to “scoop” me on my own site is really beyond me.
