Bulls winger Bjorn Basson, who was forced to remain in New Zealand after his side’s match against the Crusaders a fortnight ago, is apparently on his way back to the country.

Basson suffered a ruptured intestine during that qualifier defeat and was forced to undergo emergency surgery shortly after the match. The required period of convalescence meant a stay in a New Zealand hospital while his countrymen high-tailed it back to Pretoria to lick wounds of an altogether different sort. He has now healed enough to be allowed to travel home, which is great news for him and his family.

The Boks paceman still faces up to two months out of the game, though and will miss the bulk of the upcoming Currie Cup.

  • He should have stayed a couple of days later, bought a Sharks jersey and gone to Hamilton to support the Sharks.
