In the best tradition of praise singers everywhere, let’s wax lyrical about our mighty Sharks ahead of tomorrow’s Super Rugby Final!
Let us sing to the Sharks, oh you people of Durban
And of places more far-flung, both rural and urban
From the beaches and bistros, to the far hills of green
To the greatest Sharks team the black and white e’er has seen!
To the Beast and to Jannie, our concrete front row
And to Wors the young legend, whose fame will yet grow
A great victory sealed by three steadfast front rankers
Who will scrum, drive and tackle the crap out of those wankers!
To Bissie, our hero, our Hector in battle
Swats defenders aside just as though herding cattle
A hundred times over, our Colossus has fought
While Brave Burden plenty impact to the late game has brought!
To Joe Dirt and Big Vic, our locks of renown
Their strength and their courage in adversity they’ve shown
With tackles and carries and leaps to great height
And to Steven as well, when he brings on his might!
To Marcell and to Hoff, both the sharp of our blade
Both broadsword and rapier, who many metres have made
With ne’er-ending toil and with offloads galore
What more, then, will Wolla and Boots have in store?
To Charlie McLeod, with his passes so sweet
And to Freddie le Sorcier, with his dazzling hands and feet
Both running the show with such flair and composure
to the fans, your great play is as sweet as ambrosia!
To Paul the young turk and to JP the master
When last did we see a midfield that was faster?
And lest we forget on the bench, Big Meyer
Of these three, who will rise as the Sonny Bill slayer?
To our wings, plucky Louis and Lwazi the rocket
Put the ball o’er the tryline, like a plug in its socket!
With heart and commitment and the wind at your backs
Score the tries, make the tackles, stop the Chiefs in their tracks!
And what of young Patrick, jack of each backline trade?
Will he show that at fullback, a master he’s made?
With a calmness and bravery belying both age and size
And with Tjop backing up, see how far he will rise.
Let us finish this song with an ode to our skipper
Not the biggest in body, but my word, what a ripper!
So to Keegan Rhys Daniel – and to Reece, Bash and Plum –
Know that all will be with you, when the game’s lost or won!

Hear hear… Let’s give these guys a real big cheer
Not only the people of Durban, the whole of South Africa stand with & behind the SHARKS! π You can & will do it! Run SHARKS,run! π
Legendary stuff, oh Robdylan Shakespear! π
@markm (Comment 2) : “And of places more far-flung, both rural and urban”… that bit was meant to be the catch-all π
That was brilliantly done Rob, I think you need to get this to the team, If they still need inspiration you just gave it to them π
Geez, Rob now you’re getting soppy!
Like Megatron would say….HTFU!!
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
But well written…..I hope the wife also gets poems from time to time. π
@Pokkel (Comment 6) : Soppy and proud π
Haha awesome! “Joe Dirt” π
AWESOME STUFF ROBERTO!!!
π Excelent stuff Rob lol
π hope the players have as much fun as we do.
though perhaps it is better not to interfere with their concentration π
@robdylan (Comment 8) : and so you should π
@Ice (Comment 3) : and where is your song π
Very nice π
@rekinek (Comment 14) : I have re-posted two of them in comments on the Dream thread! π
@Ice (Comment 16) : found them π
A man of many talents you are Rob
@vanmartin (Comment 18) : the talent comes from elsewhere… I’m just a dumb channel π
The excitement on here today is electrifying,but you people deserve it,the Sharks have shown great character to come back like this,after the Lions loss I thought it was tickets for Sharks play-off prospects. The Dalian (Dalians are like brothers to Queenians) and his team got back into it and took it further than even any of you would’ve imagined this season. Good luck to Dale deputy headboy of 2003 and his men,bring it home
My favorite part:
“And less we forget on the bench, Big Meyer
Of these three, who will rise as the Sonny Bill slayer?” π
Awesome!! Love it! π
So Rob, we can’t wait for you to tone set(is that the right word?) this poem, play it on your guitar, record it and put it on youtube for our enjoyment!
Thanks!
I am already nervous, I wonder how I’ll feel when I get up tomorrow and more importantly, at 9.30am tomorrow.
Well for those of us who are ‘faith-inclined’, we could do worse than sending up a prayer or two for the boys this evening.
@vanmartin (Comment 25) : we can maybe dwell on this point for a bit (at the risk of excluding others, who I’m sure will be tolerant…)
What is it ok to pray for? I don’t think it’s fair to ask God to make us win, because He loves the other buggers just as much. π I tend to just pray for a good game with no injuries
Cheer them on all the way
@robdylan (Comment 26) :
That’s about right, but a prayer for Walsh would also be appropriate I think so he can do his job in a fair and correct manner! π
@robdylan (Comment 26) : I’ll pray for the Sharkies, not for them to simply win, but that they have the best game they can have and that they will enjoy the experience and that they will be able to walk of the field with their heads held high…
…and I also always pray, win/lose, that I’ll be able to hold my my head high and not possibly kill or severely hurt anyone in my close vicinity.
You can pray for anything. You can even pray for the win. You never know if you don’t ask… π
For a second there I thought you were going to quote Invictus π very nice poem/song though π
US Olympic Hockey 1980.
Russia vs USA
Cold war, Russian team was older, stronger, more talented.
Team USA guys were young, mostly amateurs, likable.
Goosebumps.
So I gotta ask…
Do you believe in miracles?
Check out the link
http://youtu.be/QTev5pSuYLk
@robdylan (Comment 26) : I will pray for the Sharks to play to the best of their ability and that the game will be blown fair and that they dont blow out of steam…all in all, I guess its essentially asking for a win anyway! π
@robdylan (Comment 26) : How many Cheifs supporters are also praying for their team to win? Now’s a good time to ask whether God has favourites… #PhilosophicalDebate
Either way, tomorrow’s game is gonna be huge and I hope that the Sharks win π
@Ice (Comment 32) : me too π Even if I would not I suppose that the man upstairs would saw through it
@Ice (Comment 3) : Sharkspeare π
@Rahul (Comment 35) : π
POEMS π― π
@Rahul (Comment 35) : LIKE!! π
What a d!CK this KEO is!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://keo.co.za/2012/08/03/sharks-set-for-slaughter/
@Letgo (Comment 31) : http://www.unionsportsmag.co.za/open-letter-to-the-sharks/#more-4889
@rekinek (Comment 34) : π³ would see through…
men – trying to do too many things at the same time π
@The Sharks Sharkie (Comment 33) : perhaps there will be more Sharks fans praying so he will go by the numbers – seems vaguely fair
@robdylan (Comment 26) : Pretty much what Letgo and Ice mentioned – that our boys will play to the best of their abilities and for fair reffing.
And if you’re feeling a bit more dramatic (which I am today), for JUSTICE!!
@rekinek (Comment 42) : lol! The Sharks – powered by prayer! π
@SharksRTB (Comment 39) : Blessing in disguise – he is never correct in predicting 3 consecutive results for the Sharks. He has predicted wins against the Reds and Stormers – so another winning prediction from him would have been the kiss of death π
Brilliant Rob! Had me in stitches. 10 out of 10!
3:00am in Hamilton. Our boys will be waking up soon, preparing for what for some of them will be the biggest game of their lives.
They will know full well the obstacles they face, but they will also know what needs to be done to overcome them. As we end our day, and later head to bed, our final messages of good luck greets them with the morning sun. When we wake tomorrow, they will be donning their 2012 Super Rugby jerseys for the last time, and head to the battlefield one last time.
To each and every one of them, Beast, Bismarck, Jannie, Willem, Anton, Keegan, Marcell, Ryan, Charl, Frederick, Lwazi, Paul, JP, Louis, Patrick, Craig, Wiehan, Steven, Jacques, Jean, Meyer and Riaan I say, men, win or lose tomorrow, you are heroes! Not just to your fans, but to an entire nation!
One last time, GIVE THEM HELL!!
Gonna crack my first beer at 8:30am tomorrow morning with the build-up, while thinking about those AWSOME words!!. Thanks Rob!!. SHARKS!, no matter what happens tomorrow, this has been one hell of a season!!!, SO PROUD!!!. LOVE TO ALL!!! GO SHARKS!!!!.
Joe Dirt π
it’s now just gone 7 in the morning and I’m getting ready to do a walk with my daughter for her school,hoping we can finish quickly so I can get to my favourite watering hole to watch the game.To the Sharks let them never forget the day they played us,play hard and bring that trophy home to where it belongs,SHARKS FOREVER!!!
@SharksRTB (Comment 39) : If thatΒ΄s what Keo says, he has just lost it for the Chiefs. He has an amazing knack of backing the wrong horse. Always good news if the Snorter picks the other side to win.
Awesome poem Rob! π
