The Chiefs have beaten the Sharks 37-6 in a one-sided Super Rugby Final.

We’d like to congratulate the Chiefs and their fans on a great win, but remain incredibly proud of our Sharks boys for getting to the final.

Emotions are close to the surface, so let’s try to keep it positive out there. I’ll share further thoughts on Monday. Heads up, Sharks fans!

  • Damn proud of you Sharks despite the Chiefs’ convincing victory! You made a breathtaking comeback in the second half of this season and it was beautiful to behold.

Congrats to the Chiefs! You played out of your skins!

  • I’m proud of how the boys fought back in the second half of the season, they were good enough to win this year, but just didn’t give themselves a good enough chance by not ending higher up on the log. That’s why it’s important to come out firing right from the first game of the season. They will be very disappointed tonight, but they should left their heads and look forward to next year, build on this campaign, don’t let what they achieved here be for nothing.

    Proud of the boys.

    Sharks Forever!

  • Hard to believe that this was the same team(bar 1 or 2) that beat both the Reds and Stormers!!

  • Well done boys. Really proud of what you did in the second half of the season. Great playoffs run and looking forward to seeing a SHARKS gameplan in the CC.

  • First off, congratulations Chiefs

Trying to keep calm and think clearly isn’t easy at the moment, but I will try and say this without emotion creeping in. My observations from the game.
    1. Our gamble failed, Paul Jordaan had a great game, but he played a 13/14 game, which basicly eliminated JPP and Ludik, our best backs of the year, from the game.
    2. Patrick Lambie IS NOT A FULLBACK! He was 100% better when playing in the 10/12 axis, we need him there, not at 15!
    3. We need a new scrumhalf!! Nuff said
    4. We made the final, we were the best SA team in the competition, and I am damn proud of our boys for that! I can live with Plum as coach for another year, but he HAS TO GET MORE SUPPORT ON BOARD!!

  • We can put a positive spin on the effort that got the Sharks in the final, but there is really positive that can be said for today’s game.

Congrats to the Chief – you played yourself into a good log position and played who was in front of you in the final. You played a lovely game of rugby (as it should be played) and Cruden is really a pleasure to watch. You thoroughly deserve this trophy.

  • While my dissatisfaction with a lot of Plum’s moves is well known, this I will give him. It was a great decision to give Bissie the vice-captaincy this season. I thought it was daft, but it has definitely sorted out his discipline issues. Well done on that one, Plum. Can we create a vice-vice-captaincy role for Jannie? πŸ˜›

    Enjoy it.

To the Sharks, well done for getting this far, it showed immense character. Build on that going forward and you will be awesome.

To Salmo, try amd feel gutted. Nah, thats not doing it. Im sorry we lost but deep down I probably realised that it was one flight too far.

  • We can take a lot of heart from this going forward. Remember, the Chiefs lost by a record margin in the final against the Bulls just two seasons ago. Some intelligent buying and a complete game plan is why they managed to become the best this year.

There is no reason why we canΒ΄t do the same. But we need to realise that our future lies in the kind of game we played against the Bulls, Reds and Stormers, and during the 2010 Currie Cup.

  • Surprisingly I am not gutted about this loss. In 2007 we were robbed in the dying seconds and we had a brilliant season. This year we defied the odds and came back after a happy start.

Well done to the boys for salvaging a happy season and getting as far as they did.

  • Well done Sharks! We might have lost, but our boys are still absolute legends for making it that far and for playing as a team. I’m excited for the Currie Cup – judging from the talent coming through the ranks, even without all our Boks, we’ll regain that prestigious cup. Onwards and upwards!

  • Congratulations to the Chiefs! So, so proud of our Boys, although this seemed just one little step too far in coming from behind.

I am sure a lot of lessons has been learned from this season and the way forward. I cannot say I am bitterly dissapointed, taking the road to the final in consideration. All I have is pride, and admiration! I really really love u guys!

I just hope u get over it quickly CAN HOLD YOUR HEADS HIGH!

Thanks for the ride Plum, Keegs and the manne – it was a helluva ride!

  • Boks named, no Kanko, no Ludik (probably good for us, but he deserved it) no Aplon or de Jongh.

  • Comment 34, posted at 04.08.12 17:16:50 by Die Kriek Reply

  • @Die Kriek (Comment 34) : Kanko shot himself in the foot by signing a contract to play in Japan for 6 months.

Bressler can really feel hard done by – oh well, him and PSdT can forge their lock partnership during the CC.

  • Comment 35, posted at 04.08.12 17:28:10 by FireTheLooser Reply

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 35) : PSdT is going to be immense. I was worried about our lock stocks, with Hargreaves and Skeate flying the coop, but Bresler has really shown his mettle. If only he’d get a hair cut πŸ™„

  • Comment 36, posted at 04.08.12 20:14:55 by MerckZ Reply

  • @Shaz (Comment 31) : We got beaten by a better side on the day. Cruden and Kerbarlow had the upper hand right from the start. Cruden especially had a brilliant game. Slipping of that Sony Bill tackle had nothing to do with not believe. We were on the back foot and couldn’t get back into place for defense quick enough and a quality player did what he’s done to many other teams this season, slip a few tackles to create too much forward momentum for his team to be stopped.

We made to many silly errors, because the Chiefs put us under immense pressure and that put us under more pressure.

We never got our hands on the ball.

Steve Walsh was very lenient towards the Chiefs and in particular his decision to reverse a penalty because of a shove could potentially have been momentum changing.

I thought Keegans decision to kick to poles when we were 20-3 behind was a little laughable, as we weren’t able to get into the Chiefs half to score for more than 30 minutes before that and had a feeling if the Sharks didn’t go for the try and score, it could also be our last. It was.

I didn’t give up, till the very end and you could see the boys didn’t either.

Even when we were 27 – 6 behind they were still talking and motivating as they knew one try could change the match, we just didn’t have it in us to win this one. I don’t care what the reasons was, the hand we were dealt was dealt because of our performance during the season, but whatever the reason/reasons, the Sharks wasn’t good enough on the day. We were outplayed by the better team and will have to regroup for next season.

  • To the Chiefs coaching staff, players and fans, well done! You were simply sublime on the day, and delivered the kind of performance that would have been a joy to behold had it not been at the Sharks’ expense. Catch you in 2013!

To the Sharks fraternity, chin up, you were beaten by a better team on the day, but that should not detract from your achiements over the last eight weeks. By making this final you have already accomplished the nigh on impossible, and that’s no small feat. You’ve also shown yourself to be the best team in SA, and with some consistency you could be the best in the competition.

Hold your heads high, learn the lessons, build on what you have accomplished, and the future will look bright!
