Sharksworld’s Team of the week is brought to you by LaLuxe B&B

Relax in the Luxury of LaLuxe.

I know we were well beaten by the better team and therefore this column won’t reflect the names of the players that played the better rugby on the day, but rather the names of the players that I feel immensely proud to be a supporter of. We will instead feature a team of the season later in the week, so for all of those that have been keeping an eye on the LaLuxe prize, be ready to submit your answers. I know this team of the week will be a farce for all impartial readers, but as a Sharks supporter I just couldn’t stand not to mention each one of them again. So …

Patrick Lambie
Louis Ludik
JP Pietersen
Paul Jordaan
Lwazi Mvovo
Fred Michalak
Charl McLeod
Ryan Kankowski
Marcell Coetzee
Keegan Daniel
Anton Bresler
Willem Alberts
Jannie du Plessis
Bismarck du Plessis
Beast Mtawarira

Reserves: Wiehahn Herbst, Craig Burden, Steven Sykes, Jacques Botes, Jean Deysel, Meyer Bosman, Riaan Viljoen

And those that didn’t make it to the final: Tim Whitehead, Dale Chadwick, Jandre Marais, Odwa Ndungane, Pieter Steph du Toit, Marius Joubert, Francois Steyn, Lubalo Mtembu, Cobus Reinach and Kyle Cooper.

Thanks for the season. Thanks for the hard work you put into the whole season. Thanks for the improvement we saw each week, for the huge fight back you put into the last few weeks to give us another final and after 5 years another sniff at the trophy, even if just a very faint one, but especially thanks for the “HEART” you showed in turning what could have been a very low season around. We’re proud of you and proud to be Sharks supporters.

We have only one more thing to ask of you. For some of you there is still International duty, congratulations to all of you, others have to regroup for the Currie Cup and we’re behind you all the way, stay focussed and do your best. But as loyal supporters, those who get to the game whenever we can, rain or “snow” and put our hearts on the line even when we know our team would have to conquer the impossible and share in every success and every heartbreaking loss, we ask of you this – Before we know it the 2013 Super Rugby season will roll around and we know after this weekend’s disappointment you don’t want to think about it, but please when that time comes, be ready to deliver your absolute best from the very first game, right through to the last. We ask for one complete season. One where every opposition is the Bulls at home and nothing but victory will be good enough. We know what your best is. And we know you know you didn’t deliver that in every game this season. You weren’t ready and you weren’t focussed.

So please, don’t let 2013 come and go leaving us with more regrets. Build now. Coaches. Plumtree. Here’s your platform. It starts as soon as Saturday. Don’t just win the damn Currie Cup. Win it and build for next year.

Have you seen some of the young talent we have in our ranks. Yes there’s Paul Jordaan and Pieter Steph du Toit, but take a closer look, there’s quite a few more where they came from. Please don’t just use older more experienced players as a stop gap in the Currie Cup if you’re only going to use them on the bench next year. As you may have noticed a Super Rugby season is extremely long and players, even super players like Keegan Daniel, Jannie du Plessis, Charl McLeod, Lwazi Mvovo, Anton Bresler and Marcell Coetzee who managed to get out onto the field in each and every Sharks match this season, needs some rest. They may seem superhuman to us at times, but like any other living organism when exerted, needs rest to recover to full strength.

You know that the Sharks have sort of a mantra that says – ‘Sharks Forever’. What you need to understand. Even though we will support the Sharks and be loyal to the Sharks, we will not accept failure, not as long as we call ourselves Sharks and by definition of said mantra you can easily conclude how long that will be.  We will  demand nothing but your best  and we will do it loyally so.

Yours truly and forever!

Sharks supporter!

  • great article…

A few things to ponder for next season…
    1. Lambie must play 10!!!

    2. The Keegan, Coetzee, Kanko backrow was lethal and I truly feel Alberts should not crack this unit…maybe at lock but not these guys

    3. Whitehead/Jordaan 12/13 combo was magnificent in my opinion – BEST CENTRE COMBO IN YEARS. they will grow even more in the Currie Cup together and I truly believe they are our BEST AVAILABLE COMBO and this includes Frans. The combination of pace and game reader was exceptional.
If Steyn were to make my team he would have to push at fullback. AND IF LUDIK CONTINUES IN THIS FORM that will not be an easy task..

    4. Finally and most importantly in my opinion – WE NEED A BETTER 9. – people who believe Mcleod should have had a Bok call up are kidding themselves. as evident in Rob’s weekly player ratings – he is nearly always the worst performing back…WHERE IS RUAN PIENAAR?? 🙁

keen to hear your thoughts and opinions

  • HM is having injury problems at lock. Why not call up Joe Dirt or Sykes instead of contemnplating Bakkies & Franco van der Merwe? After the season of Super Rugby the Sharks have had at least that will be just reward for hardworking Bresler!I still believe Jean Deysel is a better impact player than “Hairy” Potgieter!
