Lions loose forward Derick Minnie, who played a blinder at number 8 against the Cheetahs on Saturday, appears to be an early Currie Cup casualty, after injuring his knee early in the second half.
According to Beeld, Minnie seems to have picked up a potentially serious ligament injury and is expected to be on the sidelines for anything from a few weeks up to a few months, which could curtail his participating in the Lions’ campaign, given the shortened Currie Cup program this year.
Warren Whiteley, who himself has just returned after a similar injury ruled him out for the bulk of the Super Rugby season, is expected to take over at number 8 against the Sharks this weekend, assuming Minnie’s scans confirm the worst.
Minnie scored the first of four Lions tries this weekend in a 43-20 rout of the Cheetahs, in the process, helping his side race to the summit of the log; a good place to be as they seek to defend the trophy they won in 2011.

Sad news this..
I thought he really played well!
Michael Rhodes ever gonna be back 😯
must say, I’m pretty relieved that we won’t need to face Minnie this weekend. The oke always plays well against us.
