Griquas fullback Willie le Roux has been handed a one-match suspension for the tip tackle on Bulls opposite number Jürgen Visser that saw him yellow-carded during Friday night’s game.
Le Roux had just played a starring role in Griquas’ first try, which was dotted down by winger Rocco Jansen after a great break by the fullback. The tackle, which some pundits felt was closer to a red-card offence in severity, saw him removed from the field for ten minutes – a period which allowed the Bulls to properly snuff out any real prospects of a Griquas stranglehold on the match.
The suspension means le Roux won’t be eligible to face Western Province in Griquas’ first home match of the season this weekend. According to a report in Volksblad, Francois Brummer is expected to move from flyhalf to fullback, with Marnitz Boshoff (also a former Bulls age-group pivot) taking over in the number 10 jersey.
Griquas will also be without wing Luzuko Vulindlu (out for a few weeks with an eye injury) and centre JP Nel (season-ending hand injury) this weekend and are expected to name their team later today.

I didn’t think the tackle was that bad. 😐
No the head high tackle and elbow charge combination tag team action the bulls pulled off a little bit later looked a lot worse. . . 🙄
This sets up an away result for wp though . . . 😐
@Letgo (Comment 1) : I didn’t either, but I was looking it from the point of view of someone who
a) really wanted Griquas to win and didn’t see them doing so without Willie
b) had Willie in my fantasy league starting XV – nogal as captain
So… hardly an unbiased observer
Willie was my captain as well last week
@Bite me (Comment 4) : was expecting 3 tries from the little sod… not a yellow card and negative points 🙁
I reckon the WP team named has handed the Griquas victory…
@robdylan (Comment 5) :
And I bet you had Botes with negative points as well?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 7) : es verdad, mi hermano, es verdad 🙁
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : just wait 10 minutes and it will get even worse
