The Lions team to take on the Sharks at Mr Price Kings Park this Saturday shows two changes from the team that so comprehensively beat the Cheetahs in the opening round.
Derick Minnie is injured and is replaced by Warren Whiteley, who himself is only just returning from injury. Whiteley’s spot on the bench is taken by Jaco Kriel.
The rest of the team is unchanged and will give the Lions quite a bit of continuity in their quest to defend the title.
Lions: Andries Coetzee, JR Esterhuizen, Lionel Mapoe, Waylon Murray, Anthony Volmink, Butch James, Michael Bondesio, Derick Minnie, Josh Strauss, Cobus Grobbelaar, Franco van der Merwe, Hendrik Roodt, Jacobie Adriaanse, Callie Visagie, JC Janse van Rensburg (capt.).
Replacements: Francois du Toit, CJ van der Linde, Willie Britz, Warren Whiteley, Ross Cronje, Guy Cronje, Ruan Combrinck.

6 ex Shark’s players – Whitely,James,Mapoe,Murray & Cronje x2. If Sharks are looking to buy players, why not Bondesio to cover Charl & Cobus? Is Michael Rhodes still injured? 🙂
Methinks the Lions will be a little more fired up than usual…
@klempie (Comment 2) : Agreed.
They`re gonna come at us like it`s our fault! 👿
@klempie (Comment 2) : @Original Pierre (Comment 3) : Not looking forward to it. Think we will still win it.
Think about it:
A they`ll want to show all the unions that voted against them ( you think the Sharks are one of them ?! ) that they belong in SR.
B Their players will want to put their best feet forward to secure lucrative contracts from other unions.
Lionel Mapoe was never really a Sharks player
