The Cheetahs team to face Griquas this weekend has been announced, with earlier rumours regarding Johan Goosen confirmed.

Goosen comes straight into the starting line-up, teaming up with Sarel Pretorius to form a serious looking half-back combination. Sias Ebersohn reverts to the bench and is likely to play second fiddle until Goosen is injured again or called up to the Bok squad.

Andries Strauss is again missing from the team following his ill-discipline, with Barry Geel playing inside captain Rob Ebersohn. Tewis de Bruyn makes the bench in place of the injured Piet van Zyl.

Free State Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Ryno Benjamin, 13 Robert Ebersohn (captain), 12 Barry Geel, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Lucas Floors, 7 Pieter Labuschagne, 6 Frans Viljoen, 5 Izak van der Westhuizen, 4 Andries Ferreira, 3 Marcel van der Merwe, 2 Hercu Liebenberg, 1 Trevor Nyakane.

Replacements: 16 Elandré Huggett, 17 Schalk van der Merwe, 18 Francois Uys, 19 Davon Raubenheimer, 20 Tewis de Bruyn, 21 Sias Ebersohn, 22 Nico Scheepers.

  • I am excited to see Goosen play again. I hope he picks up where he left off.

  • This could be the thing that seperates the Cheetahs from the rest of the Currie Cup teams..

Although their seems a bit light on stars, don’t write them off..

I’m no follower of hype, but he showed in last year’s Currie Cup that he can kick from anywhere, so at least they will be picking up the three pointers..

  • I cant help but wonder if it is the right decision to start straight away with Goosen. The guy has not played in 4 months. Should he not rather be introduced from the bench at 40 minutes?

  • I like Johan Goosen a lot. The sooner he gets in the Bok 10 jersey the better.

  • @Ben (Comment 12) : Yeah I’ll take Goosen over Morné any day, ’cause Lambie it seems will never be given his deserved shot at FH
