Another loosie goes down…

I can never do a positive Western Province article without following it up with further bad news for the Union.

Reports this morning in Die Burger indicate that flanker Tyrone Holmes has picked up a shoulder injury and will miss the next two weeks. This injury adds to the news on Monday that Siya Kolisi is out for the remainder of the season.

With two loosies from the starting team that took the field against the Lions, and only one in Rynhardt Elstadt returning, we can expect yet another shuffle in the loose trio.

WP should find out today if they will have Duane Vermeulen for the coming weeks, or whether the fit again eighthman will be called into the Springbok setup to travel to Australia and New Zealand.

  • Tha’s a blow. Holmes has been good so far this season

  • I have a feeling Duane will be in the Bok squad.

Does anybody know how many players will be announced in the Bok squad today?

  • @Pokkel (Comment 2) : isn’t it still 26, as per SANZAR rules?

Dunno, I was wondering if it’s more because of the extra game.

Probably not. Poor Burden, Lambie and JJ will just tour along for cover again. 🙄

I hope sense prevails and Burden and Lambie get a shot at playing some Currie Cup this weekend.

Not sure if it will upset the apple cart in terms of continuity, but I would really like Burden in the front row again, purely for the x-factor, not because Hadebe was bad..

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) : Monde was good, but given his size, I think he’s always going to fall off the pace a little against a big opposition pack.

  • The squad is leaving Saturday already, so they won’t be playing any CC…
