The Sharks beat the Cheetahs by 34-32 in Durban, with a bonus point, this evening, despite trailing on the scoreboard for most of the game.

After an evenly-matched first quarter, the Cheetahs started to take control through the boots of Sias Ebersohn and Nico Scheepers. A pair of soft first half tries, to scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius and winger Raymnond Rhule straight afterwards, saw the visitors suddenly comfortably ahead at 21-6 as the teams went into the shed.

The Sharks would have been disappointed with that, given how they had dominated all the important statistics in the half.

They eventually got on the board early in the second half, via a Riaan Viljoen try, but their joy was to be short-lived as the Cheetahs scored their third, through Scheepers, shortly afterwards. The Sharks were not to be denied, though, as Odwa Ndungane (two) and Meyer Bosman went on to score tries and seal the result for the Sharks.

Sharks (34): Tries Viljoen, Ndungane (2), Bosman. Conversions Bosman (4). Penalties Bosman (2).
Cheetahs (32): Tries Pretorius, Rhule, Scheepers. Conversion Scheepers. Penalties Scheepers (3). Drop goals Sias Ebersohn (2).

  • Yes!!!

I am getting more and more involved with replying on this portal so you might see a lot of me haha. This match was amazing!!!!!! Still cannot believe we won this. Chadwick was awful (as always), Ndungane was his old self with bad decisions despite the 2 tries scored and I was really, really impressed by Sithole and Bosman.

  • Rhule exciting? Sorry but apart from his speed, he still needs to work on everything else. He reminds me of a young Rocco Jansen. He needs to improve. I heard Joel Stransky calling him a definite future Springbok wing but I don’t really see that happening on his current form

  • 3mins to go cheetahs trying to set Ebersohn up for match winning drop goal. Jean deysel gets hands on the ball, penalty sharks, game over!

  • @TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 4) : and on that note : same can be said about Sbura. He needs hands first of all. He also needs to improve big time. I cannot see the one being more “impressive” than the other. But I sure as hell see glimpses of potential!

  • @TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 1) : Chadwick had a superb game… I’m really not sure what you saw to say he was awful?

  • @Ice (Comment 6) : Ice, Rhule may have gas, but he’s shocking on defence. Did you see the Sharks all target him?

  • Well Ice, Living in Holland, I have a hard time even watching the Sharks. The JWC was impossible to find. Only saw the final. Sithole has a more complete set of skills than Rhule at the moment. He is much better on defense and shows he has the vision to play at this level. He didn’t get the ball a lot because we failed to play the ball wide in the first half.

  • @TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 10) :
Spot on. Sbu was chasing from too far in that try. I’d say they’re equally quick, but Sbu is much stronger than the 78kg Rhule. He ran over a few guys today.

On another note, I thought Chadwick was pretty good. Just the common forward issue today of shirking the dirty work and loitering in the backline.

  • @robdylan (Comment 9) :all I am saying is he is very young! I am sure those are thiings that can be taught.

I have to say – did not think Chad was that bad either.

  • Sias is probably busy cutting the highlights from this game into a demo reel, ready to be sent to fort HM.

“Sie koach, aai cahn awl-sou kiek du ap ant ander” 😆

I breathed a sigh of relief every time Sias kicked the ball back to us, now I know what the kiwis, ozzies and now argies feel every time Morné does it. 🙄

  • I agree guys ,Chadwick was much better tonight. The amount of turnover ball was ridiculous though!!!

They definitely had the bounce of the ball for them tonight .

  • I thought the whole front row was HUGELY improved this weekend, Chadwick included. From being on the wrong end of a penalty try against the Lions, to winning a tight-head against the Cheetahs is massive progress.

That Cheetahs tighthead prop had issues though, clearly kept trying to stir the brown stuff…

  • @TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 10) : well no offense so dont take this the wrong way, but, if you finding it difficult to watch Sharks games in Holland, how can you comment on a player being awful (as always) etc?

  • I thought the guys showed real mettle to get through this game, the ball just wasnt bouncing for us in the 1st half. But we took the game to the cheetahs which was good.

  • @Jeremiser (Comment 17) : shakes head and grins.

You know, with Dale, it’s a case of give a dog a bad name.

You can almost see it, can’t you? Standing around the braai not able to think of something to say because you didn’t see the game. So you shake your head, have a swig of your beer and head for safe territory…. “ja nee, but blerrie Chadwick had a kak game again, hey?”
