Brussow in line for return

There’s a bit of a silver lining to Naka Drostke’s loose forward injury cloud this week, with the news that Heinrich Brussow is expected to be fit to face Western Province in the Currie Cup this week.

The back row injury crisis, which has plagued Province themselves all week, appears to have spread to Bloemfontein too and any aspiring club loosie who fancies a game this weekend would do well to rock up at Free State Stadium on Saturday with a set of jerseys in his kitbag, just in case either coach finds himself in a last-minute pickle.

Free State lost Frans Viljoen for the season when he broke his arm against the Sharks and with Boom Prinsloo and Phillip van der Walt joining Juan Smith on the long-term injury list, Drotske will be holding thumbs that Kabamba Floors recover sin time from a knee strain to take the field.

So dire is the situation, according to Beeld, that Drotske may even be forced to offer a contract to veteran flanker Hendro Scholtz; the 33-year-old former Bok is back in Bloemfontein after a stint in Italy, but apparently hasn’t played any rugby since May.
