Fromer Lions captain Joshua Strauss appears unlikely to play for his team against the Blue Bulls this weekend, following a concussion scare.
The one-time Maties back-rower, who lifted the Currie Cup for the Lions last year before being unceremoniously stripped of the captaincy ahead of this year’s campaign, was pressed into service as a makeshift lock for last week’s game against Griquas, but was expected to return to flank this week with Hendrik Roodt back in the fold. Roodt’s return from concussion should see him named in the number 4 jersey, but Strauss himself took a knock to the head against Griquas which is likely to see him take a turn on the sidelines this week.
According to Beeld’s Marco Botha, Willie Britz should be entrusted with the number 7 shirt this week, with Cobus Grobbelaar slated for a return at open-side flank. The Lions were caught out against Pote Human’s side for not having a ground player in their loose trio, something they’ll look to Grobbelaar to set right when they face the Bulls.

big loss for the Lions
I thought Strauss stepped down as captain to focus on his game and not the behind the scenes shenanigans.
Is grobelaar that kak of a player that they never play him..one of the only guys who has stayed loyal to the union.
@molly (Comment 2) : molly, that was the union’s story and my info is that it’s not true.
@robdylan (Comment 4) : oh reeeeaallly, shame. Kind of hoping there is fire where the smoke of the Saders story was (if that makes sense).
