Eben Etzebeth has been found guilty of headbutting Nathan Sharpe in Saturday’s Rugby Championship clash against Australia, and will miss the match against the All Blacks this weekend in Dunedin.

Etzebeth has been banned from rugby for two weeks, which will rule him out of the match against New Zealand this coming weekend, while the bye the following week allows him to be back in contention for the matches in South Africa against Australia and New Zealand.

Bakkies Botha is expected to join the squad as cover, as coach Heyneke Meyer will now have to make more changes to his tight five after dropping Andries Bekker last week.

  • And he deserved it. Unsportsmanlike shit like this does not belong on a rugby field. I just wish we could see one of the youngsters getting a chance. I thought Heyneke Meyer was building towards 2015?

  • It’s sad to say but Bakkies would actually be a welcome face back with the Boks.

  • @ChrisS (Comment 3) :

Besides winning matches now, can you imagine how much Etzebeth, Kruger, etc can learn from a legend like Bakkies??

Forget the past indescretions, he will offer much needed experience and grunt to the pack.

  • @TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 1) : Agree that it is totally dumb to even think of headbutting like that… Especially if everyone is just standing around etc… But of course he will receive 2 weeks, because he is a South- African… Can’t help but feel that if it was an aussie or an all black who did the same thing (missed headbutt) no punishment would’ve been dished out.

  • @SharksRTB (Comment 5) : Didn’t the TMO also say that he missed, and that there wasn’t even a touch, just continue with the game?

  • @wpw (Comment 4) : I agree! We need to recycle knowledge, not just throw it out.
