As if it wasn’t bad enough that they’ll be without two further loose forwards this weekend, Stephen Nell of Beeld reports that Western Province have lost flyhalf Kurt Coleman for the season, as the result of a jaw fracture.
Tyrone Holmes and Jebb Sinclair, both of whom were red carded for punches thrown against the Sharks, appeared in front of a SARU disciplinary panel yesterday and regardless of the outcome there (yet to be made known) they will not play this weekend due to team protocols. Apparently JJ Gagiano – the American Eagles number 8 who has played Varsity Cup rugby for Ikeys in the past – has been invited to practice and looks set to play a role against Griquas this weekend, alongside age-group stars in Helmut Lehman, JP Swanepoel and Justin Benn.
Lehman appears to have the inside lane to a start at flanker, alongside forgotten man Tertius Daniller, who played a role in last year’s Currie Cup (he’s the younger brother of Free State fullback Hennie). Deon Fourie looks likely to shift yet again, from open-side flank to the back of the scrum.

Coleman must have the worst luck! He is the new Andre Pretorius!
Should see Gary van Aswegen come into the team now, if I’m not mistaken?!
Good news for Griekwas not for WP
Are the WP players punching their own players now too? 😯
Griekwas to win again then?
@JarsonX (Comment 4) :
Surely this is Griquas’ best shot at a win at Newlands in some time!
@Mutley (Comment 2) : @JarsonX (Comment 4) : @Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) :
I’ve given up.
There’s no way WP will win the CC.
I reckon its between the Lions and the Sharks!! 🙄
Didn’t Griquas win at Newlands last year? Tertius Danniller Is the Morne Steyn of flankers, yoh yoh yoh. I remember when WP fielded Danniller and Fenton Wells as part of their loose trio, that sucked on every level
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) : @wpw (Comment 6) : I agree
Ok no, the last time the Keasse won at Newlands was 1911
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 9) : 101 years ago 😯
Time to re-write history
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 9) :
Sometimes, only sometimes, I check my facts before posting a statement… 😉
WP flanker Tyrone Holmes has been suspended for one week for his red card against the Sharks. Jebb Sinclair received no further punishment ~
@Rvw (Comment 13) : thought a red card meant one week suspension automatically?
@Rvw (Comment 13) : 😯
