In the wake of the All Blacks win in Soweto my thoughts have now turned to what other twists and turns the rugby season may hold:

1. When McCaw is on his 6 month sabbatical travelling around Europe will anyone really recognise him?

2. Will Brad Thorn really join the Highlanders next season?

3. Will Ma’a Nonu and Mils Muliaina team up in the mid-field for John Kirwin’s new-look Blues in 2013?

4. Is Kieran Read the best player in the world?

5. Who will be my 4 Halfbacks in my Fantasy League Team for 2013?

6. Take out McCaw, Carter & Nonu and is this All Black team potentially better?

7. Why is the Springbok backline a shadow of years gone by?

8. Were the Argentinians any great value to the Tri-nations or would have Samoa been more competitive?

9. Has Julian Savea’s brother been the player of the ITM Cup?

10. Has Daniel Adongo’s career been influenced by Tana Umaga?

11. Aren’t Kerr-Barlow & Barrett better than Smith & Cruden?

12. Is the Currie Cup just South African Super Teams in disguise?

13. Will the Kings win any games next season?

14. Who will be the bolter on the End-of-Year All Black Tour – anyone?

15. Is finishing 2nd in a Superbru Pool any different to finishing 167th?

I may just adjourn now and go and think about some of these and other musings in the garden.

Yours in Rugby

  • I’ve heard only good things about Ardie Savea..I believe he’s my age..19 this year

I think Barrett has the potential to be better than Cruden, but not yet. Kerr Barlow in my view is 3rd best scrummie after TJ Perenara and Aaron Smith.

Argentina are perfect for the RC, don’t think the Samoans or any of the Pacific Islands warranted selection as they already have their comp don’t they?

I think Keiran Read is very close if he isn’t, for me the best player in the Championship, with Dagg a close 2nd

Well as a Kings supporter I hope we can pull off an upset or two, survival will probably be our greatest achievement

  • I have no clue who the bolter will be, I’ve watched something like 2 games of the ITM Cup, I’d say Matt Todd, but with Sam Cane and Richie both in good nick I doubt it. Maybe a Robbie Freuen (defence is scary though).

How far off is Lima Sopoaga from being fit or is he already back, I’ve liked what I’ve seen from that lad

  • @Ludz (Comment 2) :

I tend to agree with you with many of your points!
Ardie Savea has in my opinion been a sensation during the ITM Cup!

RE: Lima he is back for Wellington and going well … recently however they have been playing Tim Bateman as the flyhalf …… in fact could he be the bolter for the AB’s end-of-year-tour …….good to chat!

  • 2. Who cares (except you that is) πŸ˜‰
    4. Only until Juan Smith is back πŸ™‚
    7. Coaching – not just at Springbok level but at all level in SA
    8. Yes. The problem with the island nations is that rugby has reached saturation point – there’s not much scope for growth while the Argies has a lot of scope for growth and improvement.
    10. Dan has not done badly in the games I saw him play for Counties but he does need to up his workrate.
    11. Barret and Smith would be my picks
    12. Yes, mostly
    13. No

  • Why is the Springbok backline a shadow of years gone by? because to begin with you have a srumhalf playing wing

  • @Megatron (Comment 20) : @robdylan (Comment 21) :

I think Rhule is talented and he had a decent innings on Saturday – however, having said that, I have a feeling if someone does not take him under their wing, he’s gonna be wasted talent.

I found him nudging in the direction of Glory Boy…he is stingy with the ball and he gives the perception that he wants to do all on his own…to get the glory off course. let’s hope I am wrong – but I seldom are with these things..

  • @robdylan (Comment 21) : i don’t recall all this wailing about Andy Capp when he was creaming himself about Lambie in 2010! πŸ™„

@TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 22) : he is 19, has been outstanding on the wing and at 13. his stepping, running lines, pace and finishing are superb!

  • @Ice (Comment 27) : The great thing is that the Cheetahs have one fo the finest backline minds in the country in Hawies Fourie and he’s already picked that up and surely working on “option-taking” – not glory hunting…

β€˜He did okay for his first run at outside centre for us, but his decision-making needs to be better,’ Fourie said β€˜There were times he needed to pass and spread the ball. He attacked the Bulls defensive line too much. He’ll get another run at 13 against Griquas this weekend.’

  • Comment 40, posted at 08.10.12 16:42:56 by Megatron Reply

  • @Megatron (Comment 40) : I think Capastagno’s frankly tactless introduction of the youngster’s name – out of context – in all three post-match interviews goes beyond complimenting.

  • @Megatron (Comment 40) : Complimenting?! πŸ™„

So then us Sharks supporters are also merely “complementing” Pat for being the greatest fh ever produced in this country and that we all know he will be the savior of Springbok rugby. 😈

So stop complaining every time we’ve got something good to say about Lambie, and stop constantly trying to find fault with him, as we are merely complementing a very talented player. πŸ˜‰

  • @robdylan (Comment 41) : Yeah that was about as tactless as Toks vd Linde’s post match interview with the captain of the baby blacks after they lost the world cup final to the baby bokke. πŸ™„

Some of these presenters/commentators really need to keep their emotions in check, at least try to fake some professionalism.

  • @Megatron (Comment 44) : Give Pat his 15 mins when all the Bokke are on fire at the start. Not much the poor lad can do if they are down and out, now is there? He did nothing wrong, but he did not have 14 determined okes like Zane had in the first 25….HUGE BLOODY DIFFERENCE IN CIRCUMSTANCES…
