The newly-appointed Super Rugby franchise the Southern Kings had a day for the local media to meet and greet an extended squad for next year’s season on Saturday.
New signings Andries Strauss, Waylon Murray, Demetri Catrakilis and Hadleigh Parkes, said that it’s an unique opportunity of doing something special at the Kings.
The Kings are also still in negotiations with Daniel Adongo.
Unfortunately the new kit was not available due to the new logo’s patent not being completed in time.

Decent squad, a bit concerned about young Sergeal Petersen, hope it doesn’t come to a point where he has to play in Super Rugby this year already
@Ludz (Comment 2) : surely not – in his first year of school
Good few of those players played Super rugby for the Lions . Judging by the amount of Trophies we won over the last 10 years i would not get to excited
I’m glad Wimpie van der Walt made it into the squad. I played 1st team rugby at school with his older brother.
I see Ronnie Cook is also back, he was a pretty decent centre as I recall.
lots of former Sharks too
Jacques Engelbrecht, Thabo Mamojele, Steven Sykes, Wayne van Heerden, Luke Watson, Wesley Dunlop, Scott Mathie, Waylon Murray, Mzwandile Stick, Andries Strauss
Is Adongo still currently with the Bulls? Really hope the Kings sign him!
@vanmartin (Comment 8) :
He last played ITM cup in New-Zealand.
Wow, Charl du Plessis made the squad! Well done, Pokkel!! Are you still going to be able to manage my financial affairs between the training, travel and games!?
@robdylan (Comment 3) : I sure hope not, he’s a talented boy, I just don’t think he should be thrown into the deep end
@Pokkel (Comment 9) : Thanks!
Two Argentines in there as well.
Armand du Preez? Played lock for EP back in the early 90s… can this be his son?
this Armand du Preez is only 19 and is 2.05m tall… he must be the son of the Armand du Preez who played in the 90s…
Do I count 4 Springboks?
@Culling Song (Comment 10) :
Do you think I’ll cut it as a prop in SupeRugby?
@Argex (Comment 16) : yes, that’s right. Maku, Watson, Murray, Strauss
@Argex (Comment 16) :
I only see 3
Maku
Luke
Murray
Sykes was selected for a game but never took the field
Andries Strauss only played against the Baabaas (from what I remember) so I don’t think he has a cap either.
@Pokkel (Comment 19) : oh ja… Strauss isn’t a capped Bok, but Waylon murray is
@robdylan (Comment 18) : So that’s six internationals, together with the two Argies.
@Argex (Comment 21) : not enough to do well in this competition….
Isn’t Scott Mathie old Sharks’ scrummy – or am I confused beyound belief?
@rekinek (Comment 23) : the same
