The referees to do duty during Super Rugby 2013 have been announced with 18 men put in charge of the matches, with 5 new faces officiating matches next year.

Argentina will have their first official do duty during the Super Rugby campaign, in Francisco Pastrana, even though Pastrana was called upon during the latter stages of the 2012 tournament, he will now have a full time role.

The South African contingent adds six men, which are Craig Joubert, Jaco Peyper, Jonathan Kaplan, Lourens van der Merwe, Stuart Berry and Jason Jaftha. You will notice that Marius Jonker is not on the list following his retirement from international and Super Rugby matches. This is the first time Jaftha will get to officiate a Super Rugby match.

Amongst the Australian contingent we see former player Rohan Hoffman, while James Leckie has been recalled after not featuring for a few years.

The full Super Rugby Referee Team for 2013 is:

Craig Joubert, Jaco Peyper, Jonathan Kaplan, Lourens van der Merwe, Stuart Berry, Jason Jaftha (South Africa)

Chris Pollock, Glen Jackson, Garratt Williamson, Jonathon White, Mike Fraser, Nick Briant (New Zealand)

Steve Walsh, Andrew Lees, Angus Gardner, James Leckie, Rohan Hoffman (Australia)

Francisco Pastrana (Argentina).

  • Interested to see how the new boys pan out. The Aussies and NZ’s going to get a frit with Jason Jafta chirping them and giving death stares! 😆

  • Guys, who has seen the new Sharks Super Rugby jersey for 2013? YOu would swear the designer believed the world was ending on this Friday and didn’t put any creativity or effort into it!

    Very dissappointed!

  • @MikeVS (Comment 2) : Not a fan of that at all! Our kit for the past two years was quite good, I thought. Sometimes they look better when actually on a player, so I’ll try to wait and see if it grows on me. Should have grabbed the 2011/12 one while I had the chance.

  • @MikeVS (Comment 2) : @Here be dragons (Comment 4) : I like the new jersey. I think the white stripes on black (and vica versa) are going to create a pretty striking contrast. As Here be dragons mentioned, wait until it’s on the player before making up your mind. I reckon you may be surprised.

  • @Here be dragons (Comment 4) : I agree it was going to be difficult to beat the 2011 and 2012 jersey. It was a very cool jersey.

@JD (Comment 5) : Well at least you can finally get one that fits – reminds me of the 2008 Players Jersey (Skin tight) I usually wear a medium. Asked my mate to get me one when he was in Durbs and when I put it on it was like wearing a straight jacket!

@vanmartin (Comment 6) : Still not sold, it just looks boring… The sun rays on the 2011 and 2012 broke the plain black. Also the print on the 2013 jersey makes it look fake, maybe it is just a bad photo but I am not a fan.
