There’s some good early-season news for the Sharks, with Frans Steyn up and running after missing the latter part of last season with a serious ankle injury.
Photo’s from the most recent Sharks training session, available on the Gallo Images website, show Steyn taking full part in training with his team-mates, with Commercial Director Rudolf Straeuli confirming to Beeld that the Bok centre will indeed be ready to take his place in the team when the season kicks off next month.
That leaves hooker Bismarck du Plessis as the only high-profile injury casualty in the squad, with his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury ongoing. At the time of the knock, it was estimated that Bismarck would be out for at least eight months, making a date of somewhere in April a reasonable one for an expected return.
Both Pat Lambie and Kyle Cooper will sport new hairdo’s for the season, with the former losing some of his baby curls in favour of a sleeker “short-back-and-sides look” and the latter giving up the fight against the sort of premature hair loss that is the bane of all hookers; with his freshly shaven pate, he’s starting to look more and more like departed Sharks stalwart BJ Botha.

Rob, is Kanko going to be back from Japan in time for the start of the S15?
I guess this means Steyn @ 12 and Whitehead @ 13.
@G West (Comment 2) : They must alternate Steyn and Whitehead with Bosman and Jordaan. The season is too long to use only one set of players!
@Pokkel (Comment 1) : well, that’s what we’re told so far…. but I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t miss a few matches.
For the benefit of SA Rugby I would love to see Lambie at 10 with Steyn at 12 and Jordaan at 13. Whitehead can rotate with those 2 as no player can play every game and remain in peak form. Hence why Bismarck is now injured…. 🙁
