The Stormers will be captained by a fit again Schalk Burger, in this year’s Super Rugby campaign, after Jean de Villiers did a stellar job of it during the 2012 season, where the team reached the semi-finals.
According to Sport24.com, Burger will take back the captaincy, after he last captained the side in the opening game of the 2012 season, before undergoing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is confident that Schalk will lead the team in much the same way as Jean did, and that the captain will make use of his vice-captain (Jean de Villiers) and other leaders in the team, like Deon Fourie, who led the team to Currie Cup glory, and other experienced players in Andries Bekker, Duane Vermeulen and the departing Bryan Habana.

harsh for Jean, but probably the right call.
Let’s hope he can stay fit
@robdylan (Comment 1) : Jean mustn’t be overused as he’ll be captaining the Boks. The Stormers have a strong squad with good depth and they must rotate their players.
Vermeulen, Etzebeth, Bekker and Burger can’t play every game. Same applies to the Sharks. Both teams have depth and must use it if they want to have any chance of success!
I remember the days when the only hard man in the Stormers side was Burger… thankfully those days seem to be over for now!
@VinChainSaw (Comment 3) : keep blowing that smoke, boet 🙂 Stormers are invincible!
@robdylan (Comment 4) : Yes they now have 3 hard men: Burger, Vermeulen and Etzebeth they are invincible. BTW when last did hard men Burger and Vermeulen play a full season?
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
We were on 27 October 2012… 😎
@JD (Comment 5) :
Wash your mouth out you ingrate!
Nobody has a go at Schalk!
@VinChainSaw (Comment 6) : ouch. But yes, warranted I guess. 🙂
