Carlos lends a hand

Sharksworld has learned that former All Black flyhalf “King” Carlos Spencer has been involved with the Sharks Super Rugby squad this week.

It’s not clear exactly what role – or in what capacity – Spencer is being employed, but we understand that his input is being used on a short-term basis, perhaps as a specialist kicking or attack consultant.

Based on the latest Sharks training gallery on the Gallo website, Spencer has definitely been playing an active role at practice and it does appear as though he’s spending some time with the kickers in the team. Whatever the case, a little bit of the sort of flair that he managed to bring to the Lions backline over the last few years certainly wouldn’t go amiss if added to the Sharks already formidable game plan.

Good to have you around, Carlos! Long may it last.

  • Taking a look at the photos, it looks as though he might be doing a little bit of both – kicking and some work with the backline.

Definitely a better consultant to get in to work on attack skills than Victor “Skop hom, skop hom hoog” Matfield.

  • Oooohhhh weeeeee, imagine the Sharks backline with Carlos’ input.

Let’s hope this blossoms into more than just a short term role.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 2) : I’d be pretty happy, but don’t see it happening on a full-time basis unless they get rid of one of the incumbents…

  • Carlos is at the Sharks for the week and has spent time with the coaching staff. He is coaching skills with the Sharks S15 and Vodacom Cup training squads.

Dont know if anybody replied to this . Mitches is still under contract with the Lions until the end of this year and is not allowed to help out with any other SA super rugby Franchise

  • I like. I hope he can become a more permanent addition. You can see what he did for Elton’s general game.
