Springbok team mates Adriaan Strauss and Duane Vermeulen will lead their respective sides as the Cheetahs take on the Stormers in a pre-Super Rugby clash in Bloemfontein this weekend.
A number of big names are missing on both sides – there’s no Schalk Burger, Andries Bekker, Jean de Villiers, Johan Goosen, Juan Smith or Coenie Oosthuizen as the teams opt to cotton-wool many of their big names. Johann Sadie will enjoy his first Cheetahs run-out, with Rayno Benjamin unexpectedly paired with him in midfield.
For the Stormers, Jaco Taute starts for the first time, with fellow former-Lions Pat Cilliers and Mike Rhodes both on the bench. New loan player Martin Bezuidenhout starts at hooker, while it’s good to see openside Nizaam Carr back in action after his horror knee injury last year.
Cheetahs – 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Jannie Boshoff, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Rayno Benjamin, 11 Rocco Jansen, 10 Riaan Smit, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Phillip van der Walt, 7 Davon Raubenheimer, 6 Boom Prinsloo, 5 Doppies Vermeulen, 4 Rynhardt Landman, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Adriaan Strauss (c), 1 Trevor Nyakane.
Subs: TBC
Stormers: 15 Jaco Taute, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Kurt Coleman, 9 Louis Schreuder, 8 Duane Vermeulen (captain), 7 Don Armand, 6 Nizaam Carr, 5 De Kock Steenkamp, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Martin Bezuidenhout, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Replacements – from: Stephan Coetzee, Pat Cilliers, Ruan Botha, Michael Rhodes, Rayn Smid, Dewaldt Duvenage, Pat Howard, Gerhard van den Heever, Joe Pietersen.

@duncanbetteridge (Comment 2) : thanks 🙂
Really good to see Nizaam Carr again
REally keen to see De Allende have a go at 12
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 5) : wasn’t the currie cup final enough for you?
This could turn into a long day at the office for the Cheetahs.
There are some good ball-players in that Stormers line-up.
