There’s been some bad news for the Lions, with coach Johan Ackermann confirming the loss of two star players, after Saturday’s defeat against the Bulls in Orlando.
Scrumhalf Michael Bondesio pulled a calf muscle and is expected to be out of action for a fortnight or more, prompting a replacement at the base of the scrum ahead of this weekend’s showdown with Super Rugby new boys, the Southern Kings.
More concerning, though, is the ankle ligament injury sustained by loose forward Willie Britz. The mop-headed utility player has been a stand out for the Lions over the last year, but is now expected to be out of action for anything between one and three months.
