Griquas did the Kings no favours last night, beating them 30 – 27 in the final minutes of a preseason friendly at the Nelson Mandela Stadium .
The Kings led 20 – 16 at half time, after scoring tries through Luke Watson and the flyer Sergeal Peterson, while Jaco Negpen scored for Griquas and the boot of Burton Francis kept them in contention.
The Kings got a penalty try in the second half and then seemed to take their foot off the gas as first Burton Francis, and then later in the game Simon Westraadt scored tries to give the Griquas team a massive confidence boost ahead of the Vodacom Cup.
Director of Rugby Alan Solomons said that certain questions he had before the match were answered, and that he was happy that both Luke Watson and Steven Sykes made it through the game after lengthy injury lay-offs.
Scorers:
Kings:
Tries: Luke Watson, Sergeal Peterson, penalty try
Conversions: Demetri Catrakilis (3)
Penalties: Catrakilis (2)
Griquas:
Tries: Jaco Nepgen, Burton Francis, Simon Westraadt
Conversions: Francis (3)
Penalties: Francis (3)

And what questions were those I wonder?
Hard to imagine Alan Solomons taking any positives out of this game 😯
@StevieS (Comment 1) : Agreed. It does not bode well for the Kings if they cannot beat a weakened Griquas team.
Anyone up for some cricket this coming SR season 😈
@FireTheLooser (Comment 3) : Hehe, nasty!
I think I’m only going to watch the kings for them to loose
From what I’ve heard, this Sergeal Peterson has some serious pace!!
Look, my feeling is that the Kings will improve as the season goes, they have too many experienced players in the side not to come right at some point.
@duncanbetteridge (Comment 5) : As long as you’re not watching in the hopes that they lose I don’t think they’ll have any problem with that.
Hahahahahahahahaha. Sorry that was a bit mean of me
2 losses against 2 currie cup teams that aren’t in the super rugby and not to mention without many of their stars too. Force & rebels should enjoy this team.
