Sharks XV coach Sean Everitt has named a mostly unchanged side for his team’s second-round Vodacom Cup clash in Cape Town this weekend. Whilst his charges performed superbly in delivering a proper beating to Border last week, the coach is keen not to let anyone get ahead of themselves, as far tougher opposition await in the form of reining champions Western Province.

A positional switch up front sees Allan Dell, one of last week’s stars, move to loose head prop, meaning an elevation to the starting line-up for fellow Junior Bok Maks van Dyk, who will wear the number 3 jersey. Danie Mienie will provide front-row cover off the bench. The bulk of the pack remains unchanged, with the side again lead by lock Jandre Marais. His brother, Peet, packs down alongside him in the number 5 jersey.

In a surprising move at the back, veteran Springbok Marius Joubert is preferred to young Tyler Fisher at outside centre. Fisher was one of the stand-outs against Border, scoring two tries in a strong first-half display, but will have to be content with a bench spot this week. 18-year-old utility back Andre Esterhuizen sits out altogether this week.

Meanwhile, a former Sharks age-group and Vodacom Cup stalwart, in the form of openside flanker Chris Cloete, will be in action against his former team-mates in the number 6 jersey for WP.

  • Tyler Fisher is a future star… it is an insult to him to play Marius Joubert ahead of him.

  • @Poisy (Comment 1) : never been a big fan of Cloete’s attitude, it is always a major concern when the guys who were in the same school as him, Selborne, also do not like him

  • Have to agree with Rob,a player like Tyler won’t stick around if he has to take a back seat, his brother has already gone to greener pastures.Let the youngsters play.

  • I must say, Marius Joubert’s selection at 13 makes me want to give Sean Everitt a high five. In the face. With a chair. But that’s just me.

  • @Culling Song (Comment 15) : Ja boet just when we think we’re rid of him he returns. Don’t think it’s funny at all as Sharks XV should be the breeding ground for future stars not the retirement home for old ones.
