The Crusaders have named their squad to compete in two matches in South Africa, and a third in Australia, during their upcoming tour.

Coach Todd Blackadder has been forced to omit two key players in captain Kieran Read, and flyhalf play-maker Daniel Carter. Number eight Read picked up toe injury during his side’s big win over the Southern Kings on Saturday and is facing at least a month on the sidelines as a result. Carter has been given time off due to the imminent arrival of his first child.

George Whitelock takes over the captaincy from Read.

The squad of 26 players will first head for Cape Town, where they play the Stormers this weekend, before meeting the Sharks in Durban a week later. A quick stop-off in Perth to play the Force will conclude the tour.
