Jonsson College Rovers coach Robert du Preez has confirmed his line-up for Thursday’s Community Cup quarter-final clash against Durbell in George.

The reality of coaching an amateur side – even if it is the best one in the country – have hit home for du Preez this week, with three of his players unable to make it to George in time for the Thursday game due to work commitments. Should his charges make it through that clash unscathed, they face a potential semi-final against Rustenburg Impala on Saturday and Rovers should be far closer to full strength for that one.

Regular flyhalf Greg Goosen, flanker Conrad Stoltz and lock Dutchie Robbertse will all stay behind in Durban as the rest of the team heads out to George today, but will join up with their teammates as and when their day jobs allow.

Rovers vs. Durbell: 15 Chris Jordaan; 14 Jors Dannhauser, 13 Sergio Torrens, 12 Chris Micklewood (capt), 11 Wandile Mjekevu; 10 Andrew Borgen, 9 Tian Meyer; 8 Juan Language, 7 Wade Elliott, 6 Murray Bondesio, 5 Nikolai Blignaut, 4 Simba Bwanya, 3 Sangoni Mxoli, 2 Chris Kemp, 1 Matthew Jones.
Reserves: 16 Mark Goosen, 17 Gideon Bruwer, 18 Simon Kerrod, 19 Wikus Davis, 20 Matthew Tweddle, 21 Ivan Ludick, 22 Nick Jackson, 23 Mzo Mbona.

  • Nice to see that my cousin has established himself in the side and hope he can make the step up soon!

  • @walter van Lions World (Comment 1) : he’s been a stalwart for Rovers… great player!

Is he your cousin or your nephew, though? 🙂

  • @walter van Lions World (Comment 3) : in that case, “cousin” is a very forgiving word 🙂 I refer to Justin Downey as my cousin, even though he’s really my brother-in-law’s second cousin 🙂
