Blow as Ludik ruled out for 3 months

Sharks fullback Louis Ludik will undergo an operation on his injured shoulder later today.

Coach John Plumtree revealed the blow prior to yesterday’s match against the Crusaders, with Ludik later confirming via Twitter that he’s expected to be out of the game for three months, thus effectively curtailing his involvement in the Sharks’ Super Rugby campaign for 2013.

The Sharks will hope that either Frans Steyn or Riaan Viljoen is able to step into the breach; after all, Ludik has been one of the Sharks most consistent performers so far this year.

We’d like to wish Louis all the best for his recovery and hope to see him back soon.

  • Huge blow for the Sharks.

Frans Steyn is looking extremely uncomfortable at 15 at the moment, and I still have nightmares of Viljoen’s brain farts last year

  • On the positive side…Steyn cant get much worse. Hope to see him regain his form soon. Remember how effective Viljoen was last year at Newlands. Bosman really playing some nice rugby ATM.

  • Seems Bismarck is still another 5-6 weeks away from playing too – based on the half time interview SS had with him next to the field.

  • Damn it! He has the worst luck. One of the most consistent (and consistently good!) players in the country.

He deserves a Springbok cap, but I guess it’s going to have to wait now 🙁

    Get well soon Louis!

  • Credit to John Plumtree, our depth is really being tested and so far it seems to be passing that test.

How many teams would be topping their conference without players of the calibre of Bismarck du Plessis, Willem Alberts, Jean Deysel and Louis Ludik?

  • Big blow for the Sharks. Let me be the first to take back my words about Ludik. Over the past year he consistently added value to the Sharks. Certainly one of the best if not the best fullback in SA. We’ll miss you Ludik. Get better soon.
