The Sharks are understandably feeling a little under the weather ahead of this weekend’s crunch return game with the Stormers, given their increasing injury toll, but the Cape side have a few concerns of their own going into the big match.

While Jaco Taute was earlier confirmed as a definite casualty, it seems that two other players are battling respective leg complaints and may not be fit in time to play this weekend; flyhalf Elton Jantjies (knee) and in-form flanker Siya Kolisi (ankle) are both in doubt for the game after picking up knocks against the Cheetahs, with the latter currently rated as the more likely to play against the Sharks.

The Stormers may be boosted by the return of both Don Armand and Rynhardt Elstadt this week, depending on how the pair come through fitness assessments today.

Update: Eye Witness News has just confirmed that Jantjies will definitely not play this weekend.

  • Lets be fair, the loss of Taute and Jankies is no great loss for the Stomps.
Play the Lions hooker and move the small useless Fourie to the side of the scrum in place of Kolisi.

  • @Loosehead (Comment 1) : Deon Fourie in the openside role has caused the Sharks major problems in the past, as opposed to Deon Fourie the hooker. The Sharks are usually very vulnerable to decent open side flankers. Even though I dislike Deon Fourie the player, I rate him as a very good open side flanker.

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 2) : yes agree, whereas on the contrary we’ve typically not struggled overly to contain the threat of Kolisi

  • Super 15 is really becoming the ultimate test of depth in sport. I just hope the sharks has it…

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 2) : Vulnerably because of our poor ruck techique.

  • Hope our boys can really focus this week and deliver a winning performance of note this Saturday. We need to beat the Stormers to make up for the loss we suffered at home to the Brumbies and extended our lead seeing that our tour contains 3 teams in the top 6. We need to look at Newlands as a home game.

  • Its no longer inconceivable that the kings finish above the stormers. Did the einsteins at saru not consider this possibility? are they going to wake up 1 morning and realise they have gambled arguably their most valuable team? oops my bad! I’ve just taken cape town out of super rugby. The mind boggles…. 😕

  • And what would supersport have to say about that?

  • Sharks need to win both games before the tour and then atleast two on tour to keep up to top teams.

  • And what we need to do is compare the injury list to that of NZ & Aus. It seems the sa players are the ones with a higher toll of games and are breaking down.

  • @GreatSharksays (Comment 7) : Spot on… Focus during this week in trianing is going to be crucial… And for some or other reason, I feel a bit un-easy about exactly that 😐

  • Jantjies injury is a blessing in disguise for the Stormers. He has looked out of sorts this year.
