SARU last night launched the brand new Springbok jersey for the 2013 season and Sharksworld was fortunate enough to cop an invite to the glitzy event held at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town.
The event was well extremely well put together with the green carpet rolled out for guests and the Klipdrift range being served to guests in cocktails or straight up in snifters while well-dressed waitresses made sure guests never had to wait long before some extremely tasty morsel was being served to them.
The unveiling of the kit kicked off after 8 with members of the Castle Guard escorting a procession of luxury BMW’s to the catwalk with Springboks both old and new recounting what it meant to pull the jersey on for both the first and last times in their careers, Sharksworld favourite Adi Jacobs having one of the better stories to tell due to having such a massive gap between Bok caps. Percy Montgomery, also a former Shark gave input on the sheer amount of Bok jerseys he has worn throughout his 100 test career; more current players like Eben Etzebeth gushed about his 2012 season and what it meant to be able to be a Springbok while Bismark Du Plessis spoke about his hunger to get back onto the playing field and win his jersey back. Bismark also noted he is still probably going to be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks.
One of the celebs who went topless for the Boks, Siv Ngesi had the assembled crowd in stiches as he told how he reacted to the Springboks winning the ’95 RWC and chose not to emulate Joel Stransky as the flyhalf had to kick the ball and well he and his mates were playing with bricks, shortly thereafter Siv, Jeanie D, Janez and Jean De Villiers marched the catwalk for the photographers to get their snaps and then everyone was allowed to get back to eating, drinking and being merry. The Springbok players were great ambassadors last night as they mingled freely with the crowd, no photo opportunity being turned down and more often than not hanging around to chat for a few minutes.
I managed to get a quick word with Adi and he says hi to the folks at www.sharksworld.co.za

Ok so whats actually special about this jersey? Looks more like a t-shirt to me.
@Uli (Comment 1) : It’s loaded with hi-tech stuff.
Boks are never again going to drop a ball or miss a tackle in that jersey. Plus mixed with enough klippies it becomes bulletproof.
@McLovin (Comment 2) : 17 to go
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Will do my best to come up with a profound comment.
