A picture says a thousand words, so here is 2000+ for you. I took the team as published on the Sharks’ website and crossed out the faces of those that are injured. The red crosses indicate those who are out for some time to come and those that we are unsure about. Blue crosses indicate those that were out injured for at least one match. I know that some players have not been included, such as Tera Mtembu, but that is because he was omitted on their site. Let me know if I missed anything.

There is not much else I can add…

Injuries amongst the backs

Injuries amongst the forwards

  • @King Shark (Comment 1) : You should put an X of another color over Kankowski, as he is now not good enough to play for the team, apparently because of fitness, or something.

  • 7 Forwards out – 4 of those 7 would be regular starters if fit and in form.

6 Backs out – 4 of those 6 would be regular starters if fit and in form.

That’s 8 starters out, 5 of which are starting Springboks. It does give some perspective.

  • @Letgo (Comment 4) : Then one also has to consider the fitness of Steyn, although he has been played of the bench, which adds on to the backs, starting and the Springboks column.

  • Reminds me of the massive exodus of key players the bulls suffered right after the world cup, we saw them just barely making the play-offs we may not be losing our players to other clubs or retirement but the injuries to key players certainly makes this one of (if not) the toughest super rugby for our union. And to miraculously expect the youngsters to beat more grounded teams is slightly a bit unfair. A player who could have perhaps brought stability to this sinking ship would have been freddy, but he’s made his exodus as well… Things are looking very bleak for us boys
