Francois Steyn’s disciplinary hearing will take place at 09h30 South African time.
The player faces a charge of recklessly entering a ruck, an offence which the citing commissioner deemed as “meeting the red card threshold” after Saturday’s game against the Chiefs in Hamilton.
In a brief spot of good news, Steyn’s hearing will be chaired by a South African judicial officer, Jannie Lubbe, via video conference.
We’ll update you with the outcome as soon as we have it.

Lubbe should just laugh and hand the match commissioner a one match ban for wasting everybody’s time. It’s a nothing charge.
BS charge. You see far worse every week in just about every game. Take Jacques Potgieter’s charge into a ruck that yielded only a penalty against the Waratahs. That was far worse.
only in nz
lets hope he is cleared of all charges
Nanai Williams should have been sent of for a professional foul in that instance anyway. Reinach could have popped the ball up to any one of the guys that cleaned that ruck if Williams didn’t lie all over him.
Anyway, Steyn can take a rest or do some cardio while Lindeque gets a shot at 13 with JP coming into his place on the wing, Mvovo can take over from Odwa.
I’m worried about the scrummy situation. That takes our injury tally back up to 14, 15 with Kanko sitting at home and we don’t even have proper scrummy cover. At least Charl had a good game.
@Letgo (Comment 6) : If he is given a 1 week ban, I would ship him off straight away to a personal trainer in Brisbane, with instructions to get him into shape before the Reds game.
I find it ironic that it’s always only South African players who are cited for this nonsense.
How about citing some NZ players for grabbing players and dragging them away from the ruck. Seems as though every NZ team does it and yet when they pull the guy away from the ruck and still hold onto the player, it’s playing the man without the ball – a penalisable offence.
And yet it is never blown.
@Butchie34 (Comment 8) : The IRB should decide if this is legal, because then I think our players should start doing the same. Easy way to create space around the rucks doe attacks
The most BS call ever… Red card my ass! If I were in the judicial officer’s position I would just laugh and say ‘hearing dismissed’.
@Bokhoring (Comment 9) : I think we should just start doing it. If we get penalised then we need to take it up with the clowns who run the referees. We have about three years of evidence that other teams have been doing the same and have been getting away with daylight robbery/murder
@Butchie34 (Comment 11) : The thing is Paddy No Brain will find some excuse about how when they do it, it is legal, but when we do it is not. Similar to what old Richie used to get away with – supporting his body weight by spreading it uniformly over his whole body sometimes.
@Bokhoring (Comment 12) : Good thing Paddy No Brain has been shifted out of his position and is now with the Sevens refs.
Besides, its time for SARU to grow a pair and not let the world walk over us.
@Butchie34 (Comment 13) : Has he – excellent news
@Bokhoring (Comment 14) : He has – he achieved what he needed to do – help the All Blacks get the World Cup in 2011.
How BLOODY LONG can it take to look at the film and say to the citing commissioner “GFYS” ?!!
Any news?
Not guilty
Not guilty – you’ve got to feel me!
