Due to a lack of time, we’re going to just do predictions for now and will update this thread with team sheets as and when we find them.

Game 1: Blues v Stormers (Friday 09h35 SA Time)

A really tough one this, but with the Stormers defying my expectations and beating the Hurricanes last week, I’m not going to be fool enough to call against them again, particularly not with Eben Etzebeth back in their ranks. Stormers by 5.

Blues: 15 Charles Piutau, 14 Frank Halai, 13 Francis Saili, 12 Jackson Willison, 11 Rene Ranger, 10
Chris Noakes, 9 Piri Weepu, 8 Peter Saili, 7 Luke Braid, 6 Steven Luatua, 5 Ali Williams (captain), 4
Culum Retallick, 3 Angus Ta’avao, 2 Keven Mealamu, 1 Tom McCartney.
Replacements: 16 Quentin MacDonald, 17 Ofa Tu’ungafasi, 18 Anthony Boric, 19 Brendon O’Connor,
20 Jamison Gibson-Park, 21 Baden Kerr, 22 Lolagi Visinia.

Stormers: 15 Joe Pietersen, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Jean de Villiers (captain), 11 Bryan
Habana, 10 Gary van Aswegen, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Rynhardt Elstadt, 6 Siya
Kolisi, 5 Andries Bekker, 4 De Kock Steenkamp, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Deon Fourie, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Replacements: 16 Scarra Ntubeni, 17 Pat Cilliers, 18 Eben Etzebeth, 19 Nizaam Carr, 20 Louis
Schreuder, 21 Elton Jantjies, 22 Damian de Allende.

Game 2: Rebels v Chiefs (Friday 11h40 SA Time)

The Rebels continue to blow hot and cold – as do the Chiefs – and the Australians will have learned a thing or two about the champions’ willingness to mix it up in the forwards having seen what the Sharks did to them for 60 minutes last week. That said, the Chiefs backs should have too much here for the suspect Rebels defence, meaning a 10-point win for the Chiefs.

Rebels: 15 Jason Woodward, 14 Tom English, 13 Mitch Inman, 12 Rory Sidey, 11 Cooper Vuna, 10
James O’Connor, 9 Nick Phipps, 8 Scott Higginbotham (captain), 7 Scott Fuglistaller, 6 Jarrod Saffy, 5
Cadeyrn Neville, 4 Hugh Pyle, 3 Laurie Weeks, 2 Ged Robinson, 1 Nic Henderson.
Replacements: 16 Shota Horie, 17 Paul Alo-Emile, 18 Luke Jones, 19 Gareth Delve, 20 Nic Stirzaker,
21 Kurtley Beale, 22 Lachlan Mitchell.

Chiefs: 15 Gareth Anscombe, 14 Lelia Masaga, 13 Tim Nanai-Williams, 12 Bundee Aki, 11 Asaeli
Tikoirotuma, 10 Aaron Cruden, 9 Brendon Leonard, 8 Matt Vant Leven, 7 Sam Cane, 6 Liam Messam,
5 Brodie Retallick, 4 Craig Clarke (captain), 3 Ben Tameifuna, 2 Mahonri Schwalger, 1 Pauliasi Manu.
Replacements: 16 Hika Elliot, 17 Toby Smith, 18 Michael Fitzgerald, 19 Tanerau Latimer, 20
Augustine Pulu, 21 Robbie Robinson, 22 Patrick Osborne.

Game 3: Highlanders v Sharks (Saturday 09h35 SA Time)

While both sides will be desperate, the Sharks certainly have more at stake here; their season is on the line, whereas the Landers have already lost all hope (as well as all games). There’s a niggling concern that the men from Dunedin are overdue a win, but so are the Sharks and should the latter replicate just 60% of what they showed in Hamilton last week, they should walk away with all the points. Sharks by 12.

Game 4: Force v Reds (Saturday 11h40 SA Time)

Can’t see the Force finding a way to win here and the Reds will be going all out to keep pressure on the Brumbies. Reds by 5.

Game 5: Kings v Waratahs (Saturday 17h05 SA Time)

I’d really love for the Kings to prevail here, but I fear hte Tahs will be just a bit too strong, based on what we saw at Loftus, and in Bloemfontein respectively. Waratahs by 6.

Game 6: Bulls v Hurricanes (Saturday 19h10 SA Time)

Can we call a home win yet? We can? Oh, good. Again, the Bulls haven’t been great this year, but they’ve been worse and yet won games at Loftus against better teams than this year’s Hurricanes. The crowd and Morne Steyn to pull them through here. Bulls to win by 4.

Game 7: Brumbies v Crusaders (Sunday 08h05 SA Time)

The best game of the week takes place on Sunday morning. Jake White’s Brumbies can make a huge statement if they can beat the Crusaders here and given the relative form of the two teams, I reckon they’ll do it to. Brumbies by 6 points.

Off course announcing a team as late as possible gets the results. Plum knows this. Just like the Force has known it the whole season!

Also don’t forget the changing of an improving team and the changing of the teamsheet on match days. You can’t win without these things.

Plum is doing all the right things. I’m impressed.

    😕

Plum is an idiot. He clearly can’t see the problems the Sharks have at the breakdown.

Minnie not even on the bench. Ridiculous.

We might win, but that will only help Plumtree to make more of the same stupid selection for the rest of the season.

  • Perhaps you want to reduce your 12 point margin while you have the chance?

  • @King Shark (Comment 10) : Bulls are always striing at home against NZ sides. Crusaders are all over the show and should be a win for the Brumbies. Finally the Stormers win 60% of their games overseas so I would expect that they can take on the Blues but it is 50 / 50 for that one IMO.

  • @robdylan (Comment 16) :

    You’re right.

Highlanders by 5 and here is why.
    Highlanders had the week off.
Sharks 2nd tour game, reportedly the most difficult game of the tour.
    Sharks are favourites.
    Sharks unbalanced loose trio.
    Highlanders due a win.

Hell I hope I’m wrong though!

  • @Pokkel (Comment 17) : The 2nd match thing may have some foundation, but since the beginning of Super 14, the Sharks have only lost their 2nd tour match twice (in 2006 and in 2010). That’s 2 out of the last 7 years, or you could see it as 1 out of the last 6 years. So I guess the Sharks don’t buy into it much.
