Stormers coach Allister Coetzee can maybe look at taking a leaf out of John Plumtree’s book of excuses as his side’s injury toll mounts.

Loose forwards Duane Vermeulen and Rynhardt Elstadt have both returned to South Africa sporting eerily-similar injuries -knee MCL strains that are set to keep the pair out of action for anything between 6 and 8 weeks.

Utility forward Gerbrand Grobler is on his way to join the team, with another forward, Deon Fourie, also in doubt for this weekend’s match against the Rebels with a rib injury.

  • Yeah. Dark days for SA rugby actually.

  • Please. ALL these two bring is physicality. THAT IS IT. Any big man can play hard (except Spies).

They cant offload, step, throw a long ball, pop passes, etc. – in other words they cant do anything deceiving (Bok rugby). You can walk down a random street in a random city and find any big bloke who is willing to put their body on the line for a cause.

McCaw is the benchmark as he is the whole package. Steals balls,
tackles hard, carries hard, carries smart, offloads, etc.

If the Stormers shift Fourie to #6 and Nizaam to #8 they will have a great backrow. Better than before, guaranteed!!
