The Boland Cavaliers have announced the signing of six new players for the approaching Currie Cup season, with four of those boasting strong ties to the Sharks.
Former Sharks flyhalf Len Olivier returns from Colomiers in France to join up with the Western Cape side, as the imminent arrival of his first child has clearly prompted him and wife Brunhlide to seek pastures somewhat closer to their family seat in Pretoria. Olivier started his rugby as a Bulls junior, before playing for the Valke and the Sharks ahead of his departure to France in 2010.
A trio of former Sharks age-group players, who have since made a name for themselves in the Varsity Cup, are also on their way to Wellington. Prop Sabelo Nhlapo was a stalwart in Durban at age-group level and has played a big part in Tukkies’ success over the last two seasons. Similarly, utility forward Ulrich has done great work with the NMMU Madibaz since leaving the Sharks Academy. The third player is exciting centre-cum-fullback Wynand Pienaar, whose junior career in Durban was somewhat blighted by injury; he has also seen limited game time with Tukkies.
Other players heading to Boland are lock JC Astle and centre Reinhardt Erwee, both from Shimlas.

Where are you plugged in to be able to get all these lekker stories?
@King Shark (Comment 1) : I shudder to tell you where I got this one, given yesterday’s drama…
@robdylan (Comment 2) : As long as you don’t say “Buchner” or “a reliable source close to the team”! 😳
Still haven’t forgiven Len for that time he took WP apart by himself. What a player
Isnt Len the guy that spent more time chatting up the ladies in the gym than actually gyming.
@Salmonoid (Comment 5) : I don’t think that’s the same dude
@Salmonoid (Comment 5) : I reckon you’re thinking of Monty Dumond
@josefgremlin (Comment 7) : No, the chap Im thinking off played only 1 or even no games from the Sharks. We signed him from a smaller union after he had played well there (maybe the game Claytie is refering to) He didnt last long at the Sharks as there were apparently issues.
Monty had a fair run with the Sharks.
@Salmonoid (Comment 8) : there were issues but not like what you’ve said
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 9) : My bad, Im not saying THAT was the issue, just that he was seen chatting up the fairer sex at the gym.
Len Olivier… now there’s a guy that slipped out of sight in a hurry!
Len brother of goue lokkies Olivier, another one of the “great” signing that the Sharks made only for the player to never really play a game. Money well spent!!!!!!
@JD (Comment 12) : no, Len’s not related to Wynand at all
@robdylan (Comment 13) :
Lol. You got a bite JD… from the bog fish himself!
@VinChainSaw (Comment 14) : hey hang on….. what the? 🙂
