The silver lining

I usually try to get something written by Tuesday. But after this weekends rugby I was just floored, shocked and angry.

The titles ranged from ‘The blame game’ to ‘one coach one bullet’. Once I took my meds and listened to some Bieber I got some perspective and calmed down. All I saw was negativity and despair.

But amongst all of this we are overlooking a shining light. A story as uplifting as any Disney feel good rags to riches.

Forget how they came into being. Spare a thought for the players, the discards of all our teams. Playing for each other and making it known they are good enough. And the youngsters in their first season of Super Rugby playing with heart and passion and making it known that there are no longer easy South African opponents.

So the silver lining for me is that there is a team out there who plays for each other and for their fans and has at the very least saved South Africa the embarrassment of a white wash weekend.

  • After the Stormers, Sharks and Cheetah’s games… I was pretty close to listening to Bieber… It was that bad. But the only thing that saved me was the Kings game. And I am wondering if the Stormers can lure the Greek back home.

  • At the start of the season nobody would have put money on Kings to be the only SA team to win a game for a weekend.

  • I’d be nervous to play them at home, because they are playing for pride. Because we all wrote them off at the start of the season and again after the Bulls and Tah’s.

  • Kings have a games against the Bulls, Cheetahs, Stormers (2) and the Sharks.

Im nervous about the Sharks and Stormers games. Bok side is pretty much chosen and neither the Stormers nor Sharks will have anything to play for. The Kings, on the other hand (Darren), have everything to play for, not just pride.
If they knock over a few of the saffa sides its very possible they dont finish last…

  • Kings have only beaten the Force, Rebels and dirty Highlanders. None of which are anywhere near the top of their conferences let alone overall log.

  • @Dunx (Comment 15) :

They get an extra 4 points this weekend, dont they?
That puts them 5 points behind the Sharks and 6 points behind the Stormers, although the Stormers do have a game in hand.

A few narrow misses for either of the other two coastal teams and this could get interesting.

Or do I have my maths wrong?

  • @VinChainSaw (Comment 18) : Sharks still has a bye too. So the Kings need to make up at least 9 points on the Sharks

  • If either the Sharks or Stormers implode this weekend then the Kings have a shot at beating them. Long and bad tours and a season in tatters. They could score an upset. At the moment their pack may have more caps in it than the Stormers.

  • Don’t know about the stormers, but if the Sharks keep on playing as they play now the Kings will beat the in Durbs (on Kings Park) and there’s a real chance of ending last in SA.

  • Thought long and hard but I came up with a silver lining of my own for today.

Hopefully John Smit can seal the deal with Mallet after his match later !

Also we have a great Currie Cup season to look forward to.
Surely we`ll only lose JP Pieterson, Bismarck and Maybe Mvovo to the bokke this year. We`ll be highly competative!

Get ready for celebrations!!

  • Good article Rumblo, I’m no Bieber fan, but I’ve enjoyed 1 or 2 of his songs

As for my beloved Kings, I reckon we’ve got it within us to knock over 1 more big side, I just have the funniest feeling that Stormers might leave PE with a losing bonus point. It’s just a feeling I have though, don’t read too much into it

  • @Original Pierre (Comment 28) : prepare yourself for disappointment.

Mallett isn’t going to come and coach the Sharks. He has no desire to, his wife won’t let him and he’s just signed a 3-year deal with Supersport.

It’s simply is not going to happen.
