No more JC, Minnie

According to Beeld (yes, yes, I know…) the Sharks will no longer be able to call on the services of Lions loan players JC Janse van Rensburg and Derick Minnie, with both having returned to Johannesburg this week.

Flanker Minnie and prop van Rensburg each represented the Sharks on three occasions on tour, with the former emerging as the top try scorer from the trip, despite also conceding numerous penalties at times. Apparently, the original agreement with the Lions was that the players would be available as emergency cover for the tour only and thus would not be available to the Sharks on their return.

The loss of van Rensburg is offset by the timely return to fitness of Beast Mtawarira, who now looks likely to slot straight back in as a starter at loosehead prop. The Sharks will also feel that they have adequate cover for Minnie now that all their loose forwards are again fit; it remains to be seen, though, when and if John Plumtree will decide to bury the hatchet with Ryan Kankowski and introduce him back into the team.

The Sharks line-up to face the Bulls on Saturday should be announced later today.

  • This is good. I know we needed them as cover, but I have always felt uncomfortable with having loan players. JC just scrummed and did nothing more, and Minnie scored loads of tries from the mauls, but the penalty count offsets that gain in my book.

  • Kanko needs a start if he is going to play any sort of role for the Boks.

  • Awkward conversation between Kanko and Plumtree.

P: So anything happen while we were away?

K: Oh nothing really, I just made the Springbok team.

  • This kanko situation reminds me a lot of how Nonu was treated by the Hurricanes coach in 2011 who told him something similar along the lines of ‘Get lost and go do whatever’. Then Graham Henry picked him for the All Blacks and declared him the ‘best 12 in world rugby’.
It seems like a lot of these provincial coaches need their egos brought down a few rungs.

may i point out this is a TRAINING SQUAD … not a team … HM has no obligation to pick any of theses players

Besides .. Elton Jantjies is also in this squad .. so that takes the shine of it a bit dont you think ? 😛
