The Sharks have lost another talented player in Piet Lindeque, who has confirmed that he will join the Cheetahs at the start of the Currie Cup.

News24.com reports that the Cheetahs have confirmed the move through Jan Harm van Wyk.

Lindeque, who came through the ranks at the Sharks before leaving for Tuks and the Blue Bulls, had rejoined the Sharks for the Super Rugby season, following injuries to key backline players.

Piet is originally from the area, having played for Grey College and Free State Schools in his younger days.

Lindeque will join up with the Cheetahs ahead of the Currie Cup season, which kicks off 9 August.

  • Good move for him; Cheetahs are way better than the Sharks at developing back line players

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 4) : That was my thought. He’s not going to the Cheetahs to be first choice, unless he thinks Sadie is going to get a Bok call-up.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 8) : I just don’t see Sadie as an inside centre. But I suppose if Timmy Whitehead can play at 12 then so can his old partner.

  • I knew he would be going just did not know where. First you leave him without a contract, the we get him back for super rugby and stuff him around. Great work!!!! Hope he does not go to Grey when he’s back in Bloem cause then the Grey trio might just chance their minds about coming to Durbs.

  • @robdylan (Comment 15) : which coach is able to get the best out of their backline like that coach?

  • @Ludz (Comment 16) :

Should the question not rather be: Which coach in SA allows his backline to run with the ball.

    But valid point nonetheless.

  • i’m a bit confused, ALL publications referred to lindeque as a Lions player when he toured with the Sharks this year, where did they get that info?!! 😯

    http://m.news24.com/sport24/Rugby/Super15/Lions-trio-in-Sharks-squad-20130419

Sharks number eight Ryan Kankowski has
been left out of the Sharks’ squad for their
four-match tour to Australia and New
    Zealand.

Instead, Lions trio Derick Minnie, Andries
Coetzee and Piet Lindeque have been included
in a 26-man squad for the trip starting next
    week.

  • @Megatron (Comment 18) :

The Sharks got it wrong in their press release.

The grammar was so poor that it seemed that Lindeque was from the Lions, instead of being from the Bulls..
