Since the Cheetahs joined Super Rugby in 2006, they have not managed to beat the Bulls in this competition. They came close in 2013 with a four point margin, in 2011 with a two point margin, and in 2007 with another four point margin. They have also been hammered on a number of occasions, such as the 40 point beat down in 2008 and the 32 point flaying in 2012.
The Bulls are on song this season but so are the Cheetahs. Only five points separate these two teams, which means that Saturdayβs match could see the Cheetahs taking pole position in the South African conference. That is, if they are able to overcome their history. I have a suspicion that with Adriaan Strauss as captain, they might just break their hoodoo.
Technically the Cheetahs in the guise of the Freestate did beat the Bulls, as Northern Transvaal, in 1997, when they replaced the Stormers who did not qualify for the competition. The result of that match was a 23-35 away victory for the men from Bloemfontein.
Previous results (all losses) for the Cheetahs against the Bulls:
2013: 26-20 Away
2012: 40-24 Away
2012: 19-51 Home
2011: 32-21 Away
2011: 23-25 Home
2010: 34-51 Home
2009: 29-20 Away
2008: 20-60 Home
2007: 24-20 Away
2006: 18-30 Home

hoping they can, but somehow I doubt it.
@robdylan (Comment 1) : I think that the belief might be there. They have had an impossibly good season by previous standards, so who knows!
@King Shark (Comment 2) : this is also true…. and I really wasn’t expecting them to be anywhere near the Reds – yet they beat them. Lots of reason to hope… yet the money in my wallet says the Bulls have more belief still.
Cheetaaaahhhhsssss!!!
Tjietahhs! π
I honestly never thought I would say that π―
I’m probably jumping the gun here, but you know what would be sad from a Sharks supporter perspective: If the cheetahs manage to reach the SR final and actually win it.
@FireTheLooser (Comment 6) : I hear you. Particularly when you consider that only the Crusaders featured in the playoffs more often than the Sharks…
Picked the blikore on SB, but really can’t see them beating the bully boys. π
So I had a “Is that normal” question last night. Having no idea myself I asked google and the first result to come up is below. comedy gold.

@VinChainSaw (Comment 9) : oh man…. that is just so wrong π
Well I heard via my boet that the cheethas had the same head doctor as the springbokke had in 2007 world cup this week
Come On Cheetahs !! π
I would`ve offered to borrow them some of our players to bolster their ranks but can`t think of a single shark player they`ll want . . . π
For the sake of Bok rugby let us pray that the Cheetahs win!!!! Need our running teams to stand out – ie. Sharks last year, Cheetahs this year (plus they are my 2nd team)
