Ladies and gents, it my unfortunate duty to inform you that one of our favourite sons will no longer be able to share his insights with us in this forum – and I hope you’ll all join me in wishing him a very fond farewell.
One of the most respected names on the blogging scene, my dear friend Morne (or PissAnt, as he was once known) is moving on – to an exciting new job with SA Rugby – and as such continuing to be active as a blogger would be something of a conflict of interests for him. As a result, he’s taken the very difficult decision to hang up his blogging boots – and trust me, knowing the man as I do, his heart is very heavy indeed at the moment.
Morras, I’ve known you for about ten years now, dude, and I cannot find words to express exactly how much your contributions, both in this place and others, have meant to me over the years. I am so ridiculously proud of what you’ve achieved and I know that the new job is going to fit you perfectly, so all I can say is congrats and keep in touch.
Feel free to leave your messages for Morne (who is also stepping down as @Ruggaworld on Twitter) as comments below.

I’ve said it elsewhere, but I am happy to say it again.
All the best Morne!
Always enjoyed your insightful, albeit lengthy articles. One of the wisest around..
Good luck with your new venture!
Morne, I say this with a tear in my eye and not even a shred of exaggeration…. you are a god among rugby bloggers and we’ll not see your like again.
The King is dead…. long live the King!
Good luck with your new job – I will definitely miss your articles and comments – Sharksworld will be a poorer place without your input.But there are the stalwarts and we look forward to maybe hearing from you from SA Rugby if blogging for them is included in your job description!!
Au Revoir Buddy 🙁
Ah, PA, sorry to see you go, but best of luck.
I look forward to, ahem, shorter articles on the blog and, dare I say it, longer artis in SA Rugby!
Good luck mate, all the best.
Go well Morne! Our loss is SA Rugby’s gain, know you will do an awesome job!
It will be a pity to no longer be able to read your insightful views. Good luck with the new job.
BTW I assume Ruggaworld is also no more – can’t seem to get on there nowadays?
Sad news indeed. Best of luck Morne!
Morras,
Just come up with a new nic.. nobody need ever know!
@VinChainSaw (Comment 5) : you realise he’s working for the union, right? Not for SA Rugby Mag?
Rob,
Just to be clear – is Morne going to SARU or SA Rugby magazine?
All the best, glad to have had your insights here for a while.
Morne = LEGEND! 😎
That is all… 🙄
@VinChainSaw (Comment 11) : neither. He is going to work for SA Rugby (Pty) Limited, the professional arm of the national union.
Very sad to see you go Morné. You are probably the rugby writer-blogger whose opinions I respect the most. All the best with your new adventure.
@robdylan (Comment 14) :
Ah right – so it’ll be memos they’ll be reading!
From the other thread.
” Great stuff that you will be working within rugby at what I presume will be a high level. Congrats.
Enjoy it and reform the buggers where necessary.
@Bokhoring (Comment 7) : RW is still active.
Cheers and congrats Morne. I really enjoyed your insights on twitter
Never liked him anyway. 😉 😈
@robdylan (Comment 2) : LONG LIVE THE KING
Good luck with the move Morne, and if Rob now refers to an unnamed informant in SA Rugby we know it would be you. 😉
@McLovin (Comment 20) : Look, the dude is a weak drinker and an average braaier but his rugby insights were half bad 😛
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 23) :
Reckon he lost his braai talents in the Namib…
All the best Morné! SA Rugby is better off with you there.
@JD (Comment 22) : I have many informants everywhere
@VinChainSaw (Comment 16) :
Haha, going to work in the high performance division with Rassie – very hands on with coaches and player from U/16 up but not in a coaching capacity – more a project that SA Rugby has initiated to start documenting data and pro-actively get involved in player and coaching development.
Thanks for all the messages folks – you are certainly not making it any easier to let go of something that has been part of my life for almost a decade – every poster I see here reminds me of a debate or a moment I once had with them during that time – all special memories from special people that I call friends.
Like me and Vinnie arguing about Jacques Kallis about 5 years ago and his T20 credentials! 🙂
Thanks.
@Morné (Comment 27) : Alles van die Besthuizen!
We’ll be looking for those ‘Rassie’ flashing lights on the roof of your car!
@Morné (Comment 27) :
Lol. I remember that argument… just cant remember which side of the debate I was on!
Hey Morne,
As a blogger i can honestly say myself personally will miss your contributions big time, To me your views were always welcome and i for one think you the bloke i respect the most on the blogs.
But new journey’s are not always a bad thing and I wish you all the success in your new venture, may you continue to be an example to all those you deal with. And you still owe me a couple of cold ones, do not forget your promise hehehehehe
@VinChainSaw (Comment 29) : dude, for you it’s easy to pick a side. It’s always “the other one” 🙂
@VinChainSaw (Comment 29) :
You said he was a kak player of the short game 😉
@sharks_lover (Comment 30) :
For sure, still staying in CPT.
@robdylan (Comment 31) :
It was the distinct lack of a debating class in high school that led me down this road.
@Morné (Comment 32) :
Hehe. I think we can say I was proven right in the end? 😉
Gonna miss you PissAnt.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 34) :
5 years down the line I cannot argue… 🙂
I am missing it already bud.
Congratulations Morné!!!
Of course it will be sad to lose your insights on the blog, but I am very happy for both you and rugby in general that you are getting involved in such a roll.
All the best and rest assured that you have plenty of friends rooting for you here.
So long and thanks for all the insights.
So who’s going to be the voice of reason now?
A little late to the party, but they’ve said it all Morne. Enjoy the new venture, it has been real sir and the best of luck with SA Rugby
Cheer Morne, and thanks for all the times you’ve lent this site a touch of class
For 8 years I’ve been following the eb and flows of the blogging world of Voldy and then the fresh beginnings of RW and then here on SW. I seldom participate myself, but 90% of the time on the net I read the comments.
This is indeed like losing a family member you wish you had spent more time with.
Good luck Morne. Your insights will be sorely missed.
So long Morne ! always had great discussions and enjoyed your insights !!!
Good luck with the new Job ! And dont be a stranger now ! come say hi every now and again!!!
@MysticShark (Comment 39) :
That’ll have to be mate.
I am, of course, known for my objectivity.
Personally for me its a sad day! But I am happy for you Morra’s! Ive learned so much from you! be good and keep in touch!
Just again folks, I am overwhelmed by all the well-wishes and comments.
As Rob rightly mentioned – I do this with a very heavy heart, it’s been part of my life for almost a decade – but I replace one passion with another.
Thank you, again.
I will visit often I promise.
@Morné (Comment 47) : Seems your leaving just as the Sharks are entering some very interesting times! Good luck with the new job.
