Louis Schreuder has been called up to the Bok squad as scrumhalf cover. This comes after Francois Hougaard was ruled out of this weekend’s match against Scotland due to a recurring knee injury.
After speculating yesterday morning, coach Heyneke Meyer has decided to call up Schreuder as backup to Ruan Pienaar and Piet van Zyl, with injuries ravaging the scrumhalf stocks.
Furthermore, Francois Louw has been released from the Bok squad to prepare for his wedding day. Louw has been training all week but Meyer released him as part of a rotation policy that would have seen him play from the bench, thus releasing him to enjoy some time off. It is expected that Marcell Coetzee will start in Louw’s place while Willem Alberts returns to the team as well.
The team is expected to be announced later today.

Well, we seem to have run out of in form scrummies. I think Cockott could feel a bit bad, seeing as he’s apparently in damn fine form in France.
Rory hinted that he would like to play for France http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/Rory-Kockott-dreams-of-Test-rugby-20130108
Louis Schreuder? π―
Just shows how thin we are when it comes to quality scrumhalves.
I think it is just HM trying to give the Stormers a gift. When last could they say that they have a scrumhalf that was called up to the Boks?
@rhineshark (Comment 3) :
Schreuder is quite decent.
But don’t tell Rob I said so! π π
@wpw (Comment 5) : I got kakked out by Morne and JW Coetzee yesterday for saying he’s kak…. I learned my lesson π
Cat amongst the pigeons time! π How about Michael Bondesio as back-up to van Zyl? What has Sarel Pretorius done wrong not to warrant a call? β π― Why not Kockott or even Michael Claasen? π
Considering we have 2 or 3 decent scrum halves playing in Europe 2 or 3 decent scrum halves on the injury list and we can still field a scrum half the quality of Pienaar, we are actually blessed in that department not thin. We are of course playing Scotland who lost to Somoa who got thumped by the Lions who can’t get in to the Super 15. A scrum half from the Currie Cup B division would fit in quite nicely. Don’t go and screw it up now boks and make me eat my big foot.
@wpw (Comment 5) : I’ll take your word for it. Haven’t seen him play too many games, but what I saw wasn’t better than McLeod or Sarel Pretorius.
