The Stormers are set to retain the services of Elton Jantjies and Jaco Taute on a permanent basis.
According to a report in Die Burger, the Stormers will offer both players contracts, once the contract negotiation period begins, which is 1 July.
Jantjies has struggled to make an impact at the Stormers, but has slowly started playing better as the season progressed. He is expected to continue in the flyhalf spot, with Peter Grant still struggling to regain fitness.
Taute on the other hand, has had a horrid time, first picking up a groin injury which ruled him out for a month, and then ruling himself out for a year with a knee injury.
With the Lions still having to secure their spot in Super Rugby next year, and another promotion/relegation battle on the horizon after the 2014 Super Rugby season, both players would in all likelihood like to secure contracts where their careers are not on the line. It is for this reason that I would not be surprised if both players stayed with the franchise in the Cape, or even moving abroad, rather than signing on with the Lions.

Taute signs for WP, that presumably makes them far less attractive a prospect for le Roux.

lets wait and see …. Maybe with those players Stormers will play Promo next year 😛
@Zibbie (Comment 2) :
In the words of Fat Amy – Lesbihonest..
The Stormers, Sharks or Bulls will not be playing Promo/Relegation in the next few years..
No real los. Taute and Jantjies forgot how to play rugby at the Stormers
@Mutley (Comment 4) :
So from being so sure that both Jantjies and Taute would come save you in the Promotion game, you are now saying that neither one of these players would add value to your team?
Interesting!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) :
i would take both of them back any day of the week !!!!
@Zibbie (Comment 6) :
I think most Lions supporters would..
In the above case, I suspect some sour grapes..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) : Can only the Kings play in the Promo each year? I mean say if they lose this year, do they get automatic selection to the promo matches each year?
@Uli (Comment 8) :
Yes..
Currently there are only 6 franchises in South Africa.. Whoever is out, plays the lowest finishing team.
I see what you are getting at, but at this stage it is only the 6.
@Uli (Comment 8) : they are the only other Super Rugby franchise, so obviously.
We have 6 Super Rugby franchises. We have place for 5 in the competition. So each year, the lowest finisher must play against the one that did not play at all.
@robdylan (Comment 10) : @Richard Ferguson (Comment 9) :
That’s very sad….
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 7) :
at some stage the Lions need to start hanging on the players they have and stop grooming them for other teams . However , my understanding is that the Taute deal is far from done
Hoping the Lions can hang on to both theses players !!!
@Zibbie (Comment 12) :
Will be on the look out for any confirmation and get it online as soon as we can.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 13) :
Next week Monday then ? 😛
Who the hell gives a sh!t??????
Rugby never ceases to amaze me.
In the past couple of years the Bok fullback position could have been a choice between Taute, Ludik, Kirchner, Pietersen, Aplon, Steyn, Lambie, and probably also Daniller.
Then in walks Willie le Roux and blows them all out of the water. 😀
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 13) :
seems its final . he is leaving …
@Zibbie (Comment 17) :
There’s a new article on this site! 😉
