The rapid rise of former Sharks age-group centre Howard Mnisi continues, with the new Griquas recruit poised to make a Super Rugby appearance for the Cheetahs this week.

Coach Naka Drotske has included a host of returning Springboks in his team to face the Stormers at Newlands this weekend, but the talented Mnisi, who made his mark playing for NMMU in the Varsity Cup, has manage to sneak his way in too and will play off the bench.

Trevor Nyakane will be the bench prop, with fellow Bok Coenie Oosthuizen preferred to start at loosehead. Bok fullback Wille le Roux will play at right wing, with Hennie Daniller preferred in the number 15 jersey, as he has been all season.

15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Willie le Roux, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Rob Ebersohn, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Riaan Smit, 9 Piet van Zyl, 8 Philip van der Walt, 7 Lappies Labuschagne, 6 Heinrich Brussow, 5 Ligtoring Landman, 4 Lood de Jager, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Adriaan Strauss (capt), 1 Coenie Oosthuizen

16 Ryno Barnes, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Walti Vermeulen, 19 Boom Prinsloo, 20 Sarel Pretorius, 21 Elgar Watts, 22 Howard Mnisi

  • Hey Rob, Shouldn’t it be Coenie Oosthuizen in your article and not Soenie Oosthuizen?

  • @robdylan (Comment 11) : also didn’t know we lost him, he has the ball skills if seen in a one other schoolboy, years ago I played with a MornΓ© Boysen from st Charls he had same skills with ball in hand, the ball just always stuck and he could move the ball from hand to hand in contact looked like he was playing Basketball. Saw this kid doing the same at school and was really excited when he joined the academy…I hope naka makes a good player of him, I really think he is underestimated.

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : Rob I am a bit shocked with Smit at the moment, do you feel Plums treatment is fair? I think he needs to look back in history and think what attributed to him becoming John Smit. Loyalty created his image as it is today I think we are looking like idiots at the moment at the sharks, with SAAB there I cant believe this is happening. do you think Smit is basing his decisions on info un mensurable to us-like inside info from players/ I can only think the players are fed up with this and there is a bad vibe at the moment. I have been in teams like that its very kak to say the least. have U got info on the vibe in the team?
